Help needed changing Windows account password!
Hi
When i went to log on to my Windows account on my laptop this afternoon it told me my password was incorrect. I tried again and again and again without success. I am completely puzzled by this because i have used the same password for years, and there are only about 4 or 5 variations of it that i also sometimes use, all of which i of course tried. Anyway, i then thought i'd see if i could log on to my account using a password reset disk (this was the option given when i clicked on "forgot my password") but this didn't work as you need to have already created a password reset disk which i do not. I eventually managed to log onto Windows using the fingerprint scanner my laptop has but i don't like using this method of logging on as i find it can be a bit hit and miss whether it actually works properly and would much rather go back to using a password. So after googling how to create a password reset disk i began the process, but now i am completely stuck as it requires you to enter your current password! To say i am frustrated/pissed off would be an understatement!
Any help finding a way around this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Hello kindakooky, and welcome to Ten Forums.
If you have another administrator account on the computer, you could use option 3, 4, or 5 in the tutorial below change the password of your account while signed in to the other administrator account.
Password of User Account - Change in Windows 10
Otherwise, you could use an option in the tutorial below to reset your password.
Password of User Account - Reset in Windows 10
If you don't have another administrator account to use, you could enable the built-in Administrator account to use, and disable it afterwards when finished.

Hi Brink, thanks for the quick response.
I decided I would try this option since I don't have another administrator account. I have now activated the built-in Administrator account but I can't access it as it asks for a password!
To make matters worse, I now can't sign in using my fingerprint either as the stupid reader didn't recognise my fingerprint too many times and it's blocked Windows Hello "due to too many sign-in attempts." Apparently you can unblock it by signing in with your PIN, but I don't remember ever setting one up.

By default the built-in Administrator account should have a blank password. Try logging in without entering a password.
