Ms account - How do I HIDE email address on Logon / LOCK screen

    Hi there

The trouble with an Ms account is that the email address is part of the account and it displays on the logon / lock screen.

If I'm in a public place I'd rather NOT have that info shown.

Anyway to HIDE it or at least the email part.

    Cheers

I don't believe it's possible. Annoying security issue, yes.

There's a workaround, easy to use in fact. The workaround also shows your email but not the "real" one:

    • Create a dummy alias for your MS Account (tutorial at EF) at accounts page on Outlook.com
    • Switch your Windows user account to local
    • Back to accounts page at Outlook.com, make your new alias as primary alias
    • Set a rule to move all mail coming to this dummy alias to junk or trash
    • Back in Windows 10, reconnect MS Account, this time using your new alias email

Your Windows 10 sign-in page will still show an email address but this time it's the dummy one.

Video in this post shows the whole process: Solved Windows 10 instructional videos by Ten Forums members - Page 40 - Windows 10 Forums

Only cons I can find in this method is that although your main email is still there and working, the new alias is the default, meaning that every time you send from that MS account you must remember to change the sender email address. If not your messages will be sent using your new dummy alias.

    Hi there

Thanks for the info -- seems a bit convoluted for getting round an obvious security flaw. I can't believe this question hasn't come up before.

I've decided on a different tack -- get the Insider builds via a VM and then create ISO's or whatever to update the systems I'm using with a LOCAL account.

The VM with the Ms account should be able to pull the insider builds.

    Cheers

The question has come up before. I, and others mentioned it in feedback after the first build was released but they've never changed it.

The issue has been there since the first beta version of Windows 8, MS has known it for years.
