Windows 10: Login issues after deleting old versions
Login issues after deleting old versions
A couple days ago I realized I had about 135 GB of restore points (an excessive amount in my opinion) which I deleted and lowered the limit of how much data could be used for restore points. Before figuring out what was using so much of my hard drive space, I deleted older versions of Windows (my laptop originally had Windows 8 / 8.1 installed so I assumed those would be deleted and had no problem with that).
Today, as I'm trying to login, there is no login prompt box. I keep restarting trying to engage safe mode but I have not had success with shift+restart, shift+F8, or hard restart 3x. Can anyone help with either 1) starting in safe mode, or better yet 2) getting the login prompt box back?
Welcome to the forum. What exactly did you delete windows.old or other the quickest fix may be to download a file recovery software for free with a bootable cd boot it and recover what you deleted Free Data Recovery, File and Partition Recovery, Undelete and Unformat Utilities (thefreecountry.com)
Yea, I deleted Windows.old files. Nothing I found online said it would cause problems, only that I wouldn't be able to revert back. Was there something in there those files that I shouldn't have deleted?
Its a bit strange as normally windows wont let you remove those files as they are system you have to go via diskclean to remove them
Yes, that's exactly how I removed it. Any suggestions?
So, a login prompt finally appeared. Took about 10-15 minutes, which seems a bit long. Was able to log in.
When I was setting up Win 10, and didn't really know where I was, or just what was going on, I inadvertently created a Win logon, which I really didn't want. Can someone please tell me how to delete that logon?
