Must have something to do with Hot Mail? I use my Microsoft ID on all my PC's, even my XBOX, and have been using the same password since day one. The e-mail I use for my Microsoft ID is my ISP supplied e-mail account. And a unique password I only ever use to log into my Microsoft ID. My actual e-mail account password is a totally different password.
It's not always easy to judge somebodies skill set, or their PC background from a few posts, so you ask questions to get more info. If that had been a second hand PC from a company, it all would have made sense. Now that I know you built it yourself, that's not the deal. I can try another avenue of approach to sort it out. I can't remember anybody having this sort of issue recently. Not on a home built PC.
I too have been building my own PC's, since about Windows 3.1 and DOS. My Work PC is the only one I was ever prompted to change my logon password on. If that's been changed on the Windows 10 Retail version, it hasn't caught up to me yet?
I see the solution! Set a BIOS password on all your computers and have Windows sign you in automatically. That way the only way they can take your password away is to prise it from your cold dead hand.
Microsoft requires a minimum password security for Hotmail, outlook.com, etc.. passwords because they are concerned about the security of their online email system. Yahoo, Gmail, and others also have similar policies. Weak passwords can allow their system to be used as a spam source if they are easily guessed, so yes... Microsoft has a legitimate reason to require this for email accounts.
A Microsoft account does not need to be a Microsoft Email account though, it can be linked to any email account and you can set the password policy in the MSA options.
Furthermore, you aren't required to use an MSA account at all to log into Windows, as you can just as easily use a local account. So no, Microsoft has *never* required you to use any kind of password policy.
For someone who keeps complaining that people are questioning your experience and knowledge, you're showing a remarkable lack of it in your knowledge of how MSA accounts work, so maybe you should actually listen to what people are telling you.
The only time I have seen this happen is when your Outlook/Hotmail/Live Account has been breached or M$ suspect a Breach , Look in your Sent Folder and see if you have 200-300 emails sent on one day to ALL your Contacts, it is a good sign someone got in . M$ "watches" accounts with more than 300 "sends" a day ( or used too) , if that limit is exceeded they often block the Account until you prove it is you using the Account , they may also require a PW Change and that you Change the Security Questions at that point too.
The Fact that with Win10 now can now use MSA to log yu onto your computer , not just for your Email Program I think may have confused this Issue , with what is actually going on.
