Check Way 3: Lock computer in Screen Saver Settings.
Step 1: Type lock computer in the search box on taskbar and choose Lock the computer when I leave it alone for a period of time.
Step 2: In the Screen Saver Settings dialog, choose On resume, display logon screen and hit OK.
Is “On resume, display log on screen” checked?

I checked it, and still after the screen saver started, the prompt didn't appear

I am having the exact same issue. When I try to get into my computer after it "sleeps", the login prompt does not appear. I have to restart the computer in order to get into it.

I checked the screensaver and mine is set to "None" so the "logon prompt" isn't applicable. Any help is greatly appreciated as this is driving me INSANE!

    Thanks!

Same happens to me. But If I go to the power icon (lower right) and select RESTART, it will reboot and everything works, but if I shut down then I can't login. Strange

At the startup screen when I click a key on the keyboard the W10 login screen slides up but there is no password entry bar. The screen zooms in slightly and darkens a bit. There is no mouse cursor either. Entering my password does nothing. After a minute the screen becomes brighter again, but hitting the space bar (or any key) to log in does the same thing; I cannot log in.
After waiting for 5 or 10 minutes after startup it behaves normally. This happened immediately after the annual update!

Note that some ugly Intel video driver that presumably came with the W10 update had a Trojan, which was detected and removed by Windows Defender. Presumably because it turned up on the same day & I ran a scan before updating.
Generally I'm finding the update to be very troublesome. The system is slower, less responsive, settings aren't the same, FireFox doesn't work the way I had it & I've less control; cannot open task manager quickly and ctrl+alt+del can take ages to work. Suspect serious WDDM update issues. Having trouble with the WDDM/NV drivers, multi screen display; screens go black now and again, occasional driver reboots. Some apps don't behave properly; incur heavy overhead. When I've task manager open; the system isn't maxing out anywhere (CPU, RAM, Disks) and it's not responsive, the problem is the system! As the system was fine before the update, the update broke the system.

TIA for any login fix, the rest is down to MS to fix.

I may have a solution that has worked for me.
Over a month ago, I started having the problem with the login prompt and user not showing up on the login screen. This occurred both on the screen saver lock and when I would boot my computer from a shutdown. When I would Restart my computer, the login would show up to log into Windows, but after this, I would again encounter the login not showing up when my computer would lock from the screen saver or if I did a shutdown or put my computer to sleep.

As this kept on happening, I did notice that my shutdown would do something weird and my boot-up from a shutdown would not do a proper startup. I was researching all options I could find with this problem and could not find a solution. Nonetheless, I kept on running the "sfc /scannow" with no errors, did registry cleanups, uninstalled and reinstalled all my Bluetooth and wireless drivers, etc. The uninstall and reinstall of the wireless drivers temporarily fixed it, but it would immediately go back to the missing login.

I then decided to try stopping the fast boot, given the corky shutdowns and boot-ups. After I turned off the fast boot, this seemed to stop the missing login, in both the boot-up from a full shutdown and when I would lock my computer while it was in Windows. And to add to this, the black screen when I would lock my computer went away and started showing my screen image again.

To stop the fast boot, click on this link for step by step instructions. Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10

I hope this works for others who are having this problem.
