Cannot Add PIN

My PIN was rejected today with a message telling me that a PIN can only contain certain types of characters, mine is 4 numeric digits.
I deleted the ngc folders contents and tried to create a new PIN. Windows asked for my password, then dumped me back into settings. Now every attempt to create a PIN results in a couple of seconds of delay timer.
Fortunately my password still works, but what happens if Windows screws that up too?

I used to have a PIN for sign-in. I then tried to change my User Account to a Local Account as I have done in the past. It wouldn't work. I got an error message. (I thought maybe being in an unprotected account would let the Security Update work - that's my big issue, i.e., I can't get the Updates to install.)

Then when I rebooted, it only lets me log in with my Password, no longer a PIN. I went to Accounts and tried to Add PIN and nothing happens.

So now I can no longer use a PIN to log in, and I can't change my account to a Local Account as I have been able to do (back and forth from Local to Microsoft and back again, etc.).

    I hate this!!

Just thought I would chime in as this happened to me today.

The following fixed this issue for me:

    1. Go to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC.
    2. In NGC folder delete all the files. To do so you must be logged as Administrator.
    3. Now go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options.
    4. Click Add a PIN and add a new PIN code for your account

    Thanks!!

I'll try to remember that for future reference. Because I was having other problems as well, reinstalling Windows as a clean install seemed to be the best thing to do, which I did after saving all necessary files. The media creation tool installed 1703 (Creators Update) and that seems to have solved all the problems I'd been having. I can create a PIN, get all updates, etc.

I'm having the same Problem. Any solution please? :(

I upgraded to v1607 and lost my PIN sign-in option.

I went to go add my PIN back and the "Add" button did absolutely nothing.

I looked on the Microsoft answers page and it said to delete the contents of the NGC folder, so I did that too. That did not solve the problem though, the button still does nothing.

I changed my account to a local account and tried to add a PIN that way. Nothing happened after I put in my local account password.

Changing back to a Microsoft account prompts me to add a PIN, but when I try to set up a PIN, it shows "Something went wrong. We weren't able to set up your PIN."

Changing my password on the Microsoft account lets a dialog box appear when I click the "Add" button, but after I sign in with my Microsoft account password, nothing happens. I go to click on the "Add" button after this, and it still does nothing.

Restarting my computer / waiting for about 30 minutes or so while logged in, lets the dialog appear, but the same behavior happens as described in the aforementioned paragraph.

Re-verifying my device with my Microsoft account also does not change anything.

Using another account on the computer does not make it work either.

    The button in question:

    Any help would be appreciated.

I had to reinstall Windows 10. After a few unsuccessful attempts, per a techie at Best Buy Geek Squad who walked me through it (for free, too!), I had to delete all the partitions on my C: drive for the downloaded media creation tool file to install Windows 10.

With the new Windows 10 install (1703), everything started working right again. I could create a PIN, I could download and install updates and needed security updates, etc.
