Cannot run as Administrator on Windows 10

Having scoured all articles on reinstating myself an an administrator on my laptop (I WAS the administrator before I made myself a Standard User), I have reached a dead-end. Would Enabling the Built-in "Administrator' allow me to create a new account in my name as a new Administrator. I've tried all the usual commands ie: lusrmgr.msc or cmd - cannot change any of the User details or add a new account as I need to be an administrator. Any help gratefully appreciated.

Yes, you are right - the only way is to enable the built in admin account and do it from there. Once you have your new account set up you can then use it and for security don't forget to disable the built-in admin account.

Many thanks philc43, I will give this a go. I was a bit nervous to try the option in case I ended up doing more damage

I am obviously doing the wrong thing somewhere along the line. Nothing is working. I'm reaching dead ends all along the way. Perhaps if you could give me baby dot points to guide me in the right direction ? I have limited computer 'inside workings' knowledge but all this stuff is certainly giving me a rapid education. Everything I'm doing wants me to be an administrator - HELLO - I wanna-be !

    Hello denisemp

You have found the problem that occurs if you do not have an administrator account on your system, you can't do anything! I wasn't sure if you had any other user accounts but clearly you don't. Now the built-in admin account is there but you need to be an administrator to open it. As far as I know the only work around is to do this via option 4 in the following tutorial. You will need to have a bootable Windows 10 installation or recovery media and so you might need the help of another person or laptop to create this.

Thanks Phil I have printed this tutorial. Are you saying that I can fix it on another computer? As the Windows 10 upgrade came along with a 'click' on the taskbar some time ago as a 'freebie' I downloaded it (Like a mug now I'm thinking) I've tried Option 4 (to the best of my ability in understanding what I'm doing that it) but not sure what I would need to do to fix the problem on this laptop from the desktop computer. Sounds like an expensive trip to my IT guru who will probably spend 2 days trying to sort this out as I've done thus far.

No, you will preform the fix on your laptop, you just might need the other computer to download the files to create the bootable media you will need. These instruction are found by clicking on the links in step 1 of Option 4 in the tutorial.

Just a reminder that if you do need to do a Reset or clean install that you should be prompted for 1 user with administrative rights. That is different from the hidden [by default] Administrator account. After getting Windows running you can use Control Panel, User Accounts to create additional accounts and set up restrictions for them.

Thank you for your advice Berton. Unfortunately this is now all beyond my expertise and I've given in to contacting my local live-person man here in Tasmania to give me a helping hand. Appreciate all advice given to date. I will learn something from this all I'm sure.
