    Issues with relocated Users folder

    Hi everybody,
    I recently performed a clean install of Win 10, following the instruction of this Forum to relocate the users folder on another drive.
    Now, I'm having troubles with Microsoft Edge browser, and I'd like to restore it. I've followed the instrucions of this and other sites (,Reinstalling Microsoft Edge) but the problems still remain..
    Btw, the problems with Edge are:
    - can't set Google as default search engine;
    - can't save the Google account settings (I have to login everytime I refresh the page);
    - problems with javascript execution (the browser hangs on)

    I suppose this may depend of the new location of users folder.

    I also tried to repair Windows 10, but I couldn't keep personal files and apps because the system says Windows was installed on a non standard folder.

    I was wondering if anybody knows how to repair Edge and, most of all, if there's a simple way to reinstall Windows 10 maintainig the users files after the users folder has been moved.

    Thank you very much

    Nicola

    Hi, one of the difficulties of changing Windows settings is that that can bite you inconveniently in the backside. I had a similar experience just recently with an in-place upgrade repair install.. I'd only moved the desktop. But even relocating it to its default location didn't solve the problem. I was never quite sure what the reason was for that.

    Clearly you can try that with your users folder, and hope it works.

    If not, here's what I ended up doing:

    1. I already had a complete disk image of my Windows and other partitions.
    2. I deleted all partitions related to Windows installation
    3. I clean installed Win 10
    4. I restored my image of my Windows partition to the new Windows partition.
    5. After an automatic repair sequence, I was back in business.

    Hopefully you won't need to do all that, but that was what happened for me.

    I'm not going to comment on Edge as I don't use it (yes it's fast, but it's no use to me without a certain extension, which isn't on the horizon yet).

    Hi dalchina and everybody.
    I'm still experiencing troubles with Win 10 integrated browser Microsoft Edge and IE.
    As I didn't manage to solve the problems already described in this thread, I decided to repeat a clean install of OS, by completely formatting the system drive.
    Everything went right until I relocated the users folder.

    In my system I have 2 users: mine and my wife's. The troubles occur only in my wife's account (while before the clean install it worked properly and it was my account to be affected).
    Here's the issues:

    Microsoft Edge:
    - very very slow to load the pages: it seems to hang showing the message 'not responding', only after few seconds the page is loaded;
    - the browser doesn't keep the account info (i.e. google) and everytime you open or refresh the browser you have to repeat the login;
    - not possible to download anything: when you click on a download link or button the browser doesn't do anything.

    Microsoft IE:
    - slightly faster to load pages, but downloads not responding at all

    Other browsers, like Chrome, work properly.

    Any idea on how to solve the issues??
    Thank you very much.

    Hi: Everything went right until I relocated the users folder.

    According to this statement, you would be best advised to move it back...I don't use Edge as it doesn't support extensions, and I use Roboform to log in to many many sites, but I've never seen it run slowly- it's always seemed fast.

    Using IE, for example if you go here (softpedia URL to download an icon tool):

    & click on Ext. Mirror 1 do you see this?

    Hi dalchina,
    thank you for your support. I didn't need to verify your site because I accidentally happen to find out the solution.

    Relocating users folder caused the Temporary Internet Files directory variable to remain unset: when I took a look at it in IE (Internet Options, General tab, Settings button), it turned out to have no value. Setting a directory for temporary files (i.e. <user_location>\appData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files) was enough to make IE and Edge to come back working properly as before.

    Hope this explanation can help other users.

    Bye

    Thanks... well identified. Wonder if it would have been corrected after a restart?
