My son loaded some apps using his XBOX id and now whenever I start up or reboot my PC it wants the XBOX login in information and then list my son's XBOX id as user. There is no other user listed when I boot the system. How to I get rid of his XBOX id and just go back to the generic boot up (no user name and no request for password)

It looks to me as if you have been converted to a Microsoft account login. As your son found an account is required to download apps but you should not need to use the account for normal login.
You can convert the account back to a local account by following this tutorial:
