    Signing in to Windows 10

Personally Ive been using Windows 10 on my computer since it was officially released. I like it and really havent had any major problems that I couldnt figure out or get help with. Im not a techy type guy but can figure simple stuff out with help most of the time.

Anyway, last weekend I finally talked my Mom (she's 76) into upgrading her dell laptop with Vista. She has two accounts on her laptop, hers & mine. So when I started the upgrade to Windows 10 I made sure the computer was signed onto her account. Not sure if it mattered, I just did it. The upgrade/download went fine. For some reason when it was done it went directly to my account and i had to make a password and sign in and all that. (maybe because the first letter in my name is before hers in the alphabet?) So its her computer and I only go to visit her every couple of weeks. So i wanted her to be the primary account. So i finally got it to where I could make her a password and she could sign in too.

I shut down the computer and re-started it. It went to my name for sign on. So I signed in and then signed out and let her sign in. Then we re-started again. it still went to me again. So i figured out how to go directly to the start screen/desktop without having to sign in. (by passing the sign in) and it still went to me and not her account. By now im getting frustrated. I want to make it simple for her to get online like it was in Vista. So I decided that since Im only there for a day or two every couple of weeks I would just completely delete my account and not worry about it. Maybe add it back again when I visited again. So I went to the control panel and user accounts and completely removed my account. So then I signed her out and shut down/restarted the computer. And guess what? It went straight to my account. Why? It said i needed to create a password again too. But Why was my account still there and why was/is the computer starting up going to my account?

I really want to make this easy for her to use. She hasnt complained to me about it so I know she isnt having a problem. She must be staying signed in or something, Im not sure.

Can someone please help me? When she starts the computer I want it to go to her account whether she has to sign in or it goes directly to her desktop (which be both prefer). And why is My name still there after deleting it? Im really confused why and about what to do to fix it. Please help. Thank You.

First, congratulations on upgrading from Vista to Windows 10. That's quite an accomplishment!

I suspect the real issue is that one of the first questions Windows 10 asks is if the computer is for work or home (or something like that). For some reason the default is work and if you aren't paying attention it's easy to have that option selected when clicking next and that will cause login problems like you have. The way to tell is to press Windows Key + R to open run dialog box. Enter systempropertiescomputername and OK. On the window that opens does it say Workgroup or Domain under full computer name? You want to see workgroup, not domain.

To set her to automatically login - windows key +R. This time type netplwiz and OK. Her account should be listed under the list of users. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Click Apply. In the next window that opens enter her username and password and click OK. NOTE: this username is the same as the name of the folder for her account that appears under C:\Users! It won't be her complete email address and might be different than what you think! Click OK and OK.

Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup

Restart and hopefully it will login automatically into her user account.
