Hi nikolod! It's great that you have worked out the problem by yourself. Actually, in Windows 10 or 8 you can also create a Recovery Drive from the Control Panel applet. Just boot your problematic PC from the Recovery Drive, and it allows you to reset/refresh any Windows 10/8 system without prompting for any password.

Well, that was my first trial - from recovery screen - reset pc- first option is to keep the docs and files. Did not work to the end for me. After system is restarted and starting to perform the reset, first ask to choose acc(in my case the admin) and password! So dead end again. If someone go to the WIN 10 safe mode and do not have the admin password, there is so far no way out, then whipping the pc. I am not an expert, but average user and there still might be a way I am not getting to...
Anyway very confusing case, good I got backup on my really important files a side, so the whipping it out did not hurt that much.

    Thank you for your input.

Stuck in Safe Mode and can't login to Windows 10

I am in the SAME safe mode hell. I can't get out of the safe mode no networking - no command prompt. I log in to my Windows 10 with a PIN password which is how my system was set up. I did not know there were other types of passwords I also needed to setup.I never had a problem logging in before and never had changed my password so when I first got the reboot and password not recognized error message I was very confused.

I do not have a backup of my computer since I bought it in November. Shame on me. I have been stuck in this cycle for 3 weeks now and have been trying googling and trying everything I can read. I don't want to give up and have to start over from the system recovery. I had so many problems with my laptop when I got it with it crashing every 10 minutes and I had my 90 day warranty with Lenovo so I was able to change a lot of settings to get my computer to run without crashing all the time. Lots of software and hardware updates plus all my programs that I don't have the installs of anymore.

I just can't give up as I have too much to lose. Has anyone come across a way to get out of safe mode when your admin password isn't working for Windows 10 login screen?

I need a real smart techie to help me out with some ideas to try!

I would be greatful for any suggestions! Thank you in advance!

As much as I wish I had a solution for you I must admit to being a not real smart techie as I never assign a password to the hidden Administrator account, maybe because it is Hidden on purpose, by default. A suggestion would be to find a password removal tool on the 'net that can be used to create a bootable CD then remove any passwords without Windows actually running.

I don't know if this will help with your situation or not but this is a guide to convert a Microsoft account to a local account. It was written for Windows 8 but I read it will work on Windows10. I have not tried this myself. This thread was posted in another forum. On page 2, posts 14 and 15 is the guide.

Windows 8 Microsoft Account password hack.

If you decide to try this make a backup image of your hard drive. Just in case something goes wrong. Also backup the Windows registry.

    Good luck

I was in the same boat where I had set my Win10 machine to safe mode, but forgot the password since I had been using a 4 digit passcode. Here's a solution that worked for me after trying a bunch of other things. Download pcunlocker from here: Reset Lost or Forgotten Windows Password with PCUnlocker

I unfortunately did have to pay $29 for it, but it saved me a lot of headache. When you download the unlocker, you'll get an iso file that you have to copy as an image to a usb key. I used a program called iso2disk which is free to do that. There were a few other steps that I had to do in the bios of my notebook to allow me to boot to usb. That involved switching the boot mode to classic.

Once you boot with the unlocker program, you can simply remove the password from that account, then you will boot back up to windows.

    Dude...

you saved my dumb as after enabling "SafeMode" via msconfig to initially solve some "System Recovery Issues". I tried several USB-Sticks with MS-DART, all gave me an error editing the BCD back to normal mode, sometimes they could find the BCD or had no acces.

After downloading the Windows Rescue PE from your Link an using NTPW, i've managed to Unlock the stadard Adminaccount and reset the Systemstart to Normal.

I Love you and thx so much for the provided Link. Hope someone reads this to who has the same Problems!

With kind regards from Saxony/Germany - Toxic
