    Username question

    Hi,

I intend to use either "owner" or "admin" for windows 10 pro, is there any pros and cons?
Will these 2 words will mix up with other stuff? or maybe cause any permission problems or whatever problems?

The only con I may think is during a search for "admin" there might be a lot of results, not sure about "owner"?

During windows installation on the page it requires a name, can I enter "owner"/"admin" or does it need to be "Owner"/"Admin"?

    Thanks.

Simply installing while saying there is no Internet service and using Owner with no E-Mail address will work, I've done several rehabs that were intended for donation to those in need, 4 went to a Honduras mission school over a year ago. The first installed User will have/has to have Administrative Rights. Other users can be added later if needed, either as a Local Account with Admin or a Local with Standard rights. Standard user can't make many changes, install some software, devices, etc.

Is the windows username only shown/used to name the folder in this location? C:\Users\Username

During windows installation on the page it requires a name is it case sensitive? Can I enter "owner"/"admin" or does it need to be "Owner"/"Admin"?

The main point I am asking is I am going to use a generic name like "owner" or "admin" as the username for the PC, is there any cons to it? Which one is better? Thanks.

I'd leave Admin off, have seen issues as there is a hidden Administrator account that is not activated except for extreme reasons. Each name user will have their own profile and set of default files in C:\Users and each name should be at least one character difference from any other to avoid files getting mingled, had to fix one that made that mistake. When looking in Users or Accounts one can see the type of account and an Admin. can make changes.

Would naming my new pc with the word "owner" be fine? Any cons? I guess it looks more distinctive than the word "admin"

Is naming the pc during installation case sensitive?

Would naming the pc as "owner" or "Owner" would cause any differences to folder name "C:\Users\owner" or "C:\Users\Owner"? Just asking to avoid any corrupt/registry/permission problems in the future.

Owner will be fine, leaves room for a future user setting as desired without having specific documents on it. I always use a capital but Windows may change it to all small. Win11 Microsoft Account made my latest as the first 5 letters of the E-Mail account I used. Can't be too creative with the name as some characters are not allowed, will give an error if tried.

It probably doesn't mater what naming convention you use since Windows is coded to know the path of the username. But to make things simpler I'd use "owner..."

Everyone should have an admin account and a user account. They should normally use the user account and can allow elevation when necessary. Running all the time in an admin account is less secure. Perhaps some will disagree? I'm sure you could use the names you want and it does not matter if you capitalise or not.

I have just created an admin account called admin and a user account called owner without any problems. You can use Admin or admin, Windows doesn't care. But you can't use both as Windows sees Admin and admin as the same. I set these as local acconts.

    In Linux capitalization matters...
