    infinite loop at login screen

    Hello,

I'm new to the forums. I have a major problem. I tried to troubleshoot my nephew's computer (Windows 10 Home) and tried various things. I must have messed things up big time, 'cause s*** happened at the Login Screen. It says the password is invalid and refuse the one my nephew has been using the whole time. I tried to hit I forgot my password, it restart and dumps me back to the login screen again.

I tried to restart in safe mode, but it keeps asking me for that dawn password that wont work!

Is there anyway to reset the password without having to reinstall Windows 10?

    Thank you in advance.

That it restarts when you click 'Forgot password' suggests there may well be a real problem.

Is this a local or a MS account? Your options differ depending on which it is.

From the huge searchable Tutorials section (click Tutorials at the top) I found this for you.
    Hint- I searched for
    reset password

Reset Password of User Account in Windows 10
    - Option 2 - local.
    - Option 3 - MS
Follow instructions carefully- usually blue highlighted text is clickable and takes you to another tutorial.

It's really worthwhile becoming familiar with the professional quality illustrated Tutorials section - do have a look

I have tried to recover from setting 'diagnostic startup' in msconfig.exe, by getting into Recovery. But I did not succeed. You can't run msconfig from a command prompt to reset it.

The password and PIN are not lost or currupted, it just that the necessary drivers are unavailable. There is no way to login. The only solution, for me, was to boot into Macrium Recovery from either an external USB HDD or boot into Macrium from the Windows boot menu and restore a recent image.

I have a LIVE USB, but with Linux Mint XFCE and gave it a go. It boots up, but I can't see the Windows partition. Possibly because of that sh**** bitlocker. How to get around this? I tried to disable the secure boot in the BIOS, but it wont let me! Pressing the DOWN key wont budge, it stays on the Set Supervisor Password.

OK done. Windows partition is not visible. How to mount it? Hibernation is probably on.

Sorry, I forgot to reply. I'm trying both Windows and Linux solutions. I sent Option 3 from your link to my nephew and waiting for his reply.
