I just installed an Xbox controller app from Steam for Windows 10. Since then, when I boot up, my numlock light goes out and the mouse disables. When I get to password screen where I normally hit my mouse to bring up password box nothing happens of course so I'm essentially locked out. I can't get into safe mode despite trying some of the suggested methods. Does anyone have any ideas be ause I'm at a loss.

I assume your keyboard isn't working either else you could have used that to dismiss the lock screen.
If you have a recent restore point you could try Option 1
System Restore Windows 10
Click on the first blue text to see the next tutorial... Option 6 in that
and so via Advanced Startup options to System Restore.
You will need to know your password.
I.e. use your power button to get to Advanced Startup options.... and so to System restore.
Or you could restore your system from a recent 3rd party disk image.
The routine and regular use of disk imaging (e.g. Macrum Reflect, Aomei Backupper (free) etc) is endlessly recommended here.
