    Windows password

I'm attempting to look at my saved passwords on chrome and Windows is asking me for my Windows password before I can look at them. I have no idea what the password is and I don't see an option to reset it. This hasn't happened before when I was checking my saved passwords. I'm very confused.

Do you use a password to log into Win10 or a PIN? I use Firefox and Edge and on a rebuild for a client didn't need it to Export her passwords and bookmarks/favorites.

    Change account password - TenForumsTutorials
If it's a local account then I think you will need Option 5.

And do write down the new password somewhere secure yet accessible.

    Best of luck,

You might consider using a 3rd party password manager that can be used across browsers, and optionally synched across devices.

Consider this.. if your PC were stolen or the system disk became irretrievably corrupt, how would you recover those passwords?

    Note that even if
    - you set your PC to log into an account automatically
    - you use a PIN, not a password
    - you use Windows Hello (biometrics)

you still need to have access to your password and will be prompted for it in a few circumstances.

Thanks for all the information. The word Pin prompted my understanding. I was confused because a Password was requested under the user name. It didn't occur to me that that would be a pin, the one I use to unlock my computer.

All good. Thanks everyone. May need your answers for future reference.

I do. Which I had labeled as Microsoft. I relabeled it as Microsoft Windows. I’m old so forget things I knew.

Surely you relabelled it with your user name?
It is only relevant to your user account not to Windows itself. If you added other user accounts then you'd set up different user names & passwords for them.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

I meant I relabeled my handwritten note…for future reference. Thanks for the input.
