    Rename local administrator account name to another name


    How do I rename a local administrator account name "UserName" to "admin"?

    Hello,

    If you mean the account name and not the name of its profile folder, then you should be able to use an option below to rename the account.

    Sorry, I actually meant both username and the profile folder (including Windows settings, file and program locations, etc.). Thank you.

    First thing create a new admin user so if you screw up you cań login

    1) Change the account name.

    Change User Name of Account in Windows 10

    2) Change the profile folder name.

    In the first link above, Option 2, how does "Shawn Brink" change his name to "admin"? The new account "admin" was created previously and already exists.

    In the above post, is it sequential ie. must do "1)" first and then "2)"?

    Will I be able to undo changes in case of error using a 'restore point'?

    If you don't want to use the new "admin" account, you'll need to either rename it or delete it to be able to use the "admin" name for your account.

    I want to use it. Presumably I can skip step "1)" and just jump to step "2)"?

    You can, but you won't be able to rename any other account on the computer with "admin".
