Family user or new local user
Hello,
Which would be better, to create a "family user" or a "local user" on my laptop.

If you're the only user you'd need an administrator account if you ever need to do any repairs or modifications.
Depends on how you are going to secure it for the age of the person and if using OneCloud. Using a Microsoft account allows someone to log into any computer and bring their desktop and documents with them.
Harry,
You are mixing terms up a bit.
- You can add a new user as an MSAccount or a Local account - Settings, Family & other users, Other users.
- You can add a new user as an MSAccount as a family member - Settings, Family & other users, Your family.
No option is always "better" than another. Which one to choose at any given point depends on what you want it for.
If you just want a user account that exists only on the computer in question & nowhere else then create a new Local user account.
- And it is worthwhile doing this to create a spare account anyway as a hedge against corruption of your normal user account. And you make the spare account Admin so you can get back in control of your computer when you use it. Create two spare local, password-protected Admin accounts [post #2] in Windows 10, 11 - TenForums
All the best,

Yep - all a bit confusing. I set up a user on a family account recently, as I was checking it out for a friend, and I was surprised it automatically made that user one of my five additional users to my Office 365 Family licence as well, which was a bit irritating as I then had to remove that account.
