Something happened and your PIN isn't available

Something happened and your PIN isn't available Windows 11 [Fix]
The article show some "fixes" for W11, but this could also happen in W10.

It have happen for me twice in my laptop.

First time I was told to get into my E-mail account and change the PIN there. Luckily I had another PC available so I get it done.
Second time I was told to write my password for my Microsoft account. Luckily I was able to remember that.

So, there is different scenarios that could appear. And you don't know which.

It no so hard to imagine the terrible situation if you are on holiday in a foreign country and you may not have another PC available.....than you are stucked.

The solutions in the article is no good, who want to RESET their PCs?

This reminds me about the 1990's when suddenly the bankautomat could swallow your bankcard, not so very funny when you get stucked in an not so urban area on the other side of the globe.

I guess you may could fix it by entering some unknown menus in safe mode or what ever, but for ordinary people with limited interest and knowledge about this it could be challenging.

Is there any pretty straigth forward solution the next time Microsoft try to terrorize you with this behaviour?

    Hello mate,

You can see if the method in the tutorial below may help. It should be the same for Windows 10.

    NTN,

I write my passwords down in a secure yet constantly accessible location.
Writing down passwords is as effective as & is a lot cheaper than making 'Password reset disks' [which are only for local accounts anyway].
I always write user account passwords down on a strip of paper that I keep inside one of those dog nametag cylinder things attached to my main keyring -
Here's a [UK] link for some example ID tags https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Barrel-.../dp/B00DEB1JVQ There are lots of available choices but I bought ones that, like these, have a slot in the bottom for me to swing off so I can be confident they won't come apart accidentally while I'm out & about.

    All the best,
    Denis

    ThankYou for answering, Brink...

If the only solution should be to enter your password for the Microsoft account, it could be acceptable.
    But it is not.

Suddenly "they" could ask you to enter your Email-account when you offcourse are not able do....what kind of evilness is that?
Or are they just plain stupid?

And I then also could see in your link that they also have really spiced it up with something extra:
    What they call "two-step verification".

THAT could only be categorized as pure viciousness.

What kind of grinning tufts in Microsoft are working with this stuff?

    Anyhow...Thanks Brink.

Are you able to access your email from another device (PC or phone)?

If you had a phone number registered with your Microsoft account, you can get a code texted to you to verify and unlock with.

I do have a phone yes....but I've not registered into Microsoft. With purpose and free will.

Yes, I do have access to another PC in my home and there is no big deal for me to struggling with the rigid Microsofts policies there.
But there is a potential situation to get in trouble when you are away and maybe only brought with me only the laptop, as I tried to picture in my first post.
Even with a phone registered into Microsoft there could be a hassle with numbers specially when you are abroad.

So far, so good.....no big trouble yet.
But I do see that people are struggling with the PIN policies all over the globe.
It tells me, and I hope it will give a hint to Microsoft also, that the existing "solution" with throwing people out from their own PC if they do not follow Microsoft "rules" point to point, may is.........absolutely obnoxious, to put it mildly.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to you Brink and Denis and all the rest.

That's why I use my main keyring to hold the written password.

    Merry Christmas,
