I do the same; my passwords are in a password-protected Excel file. But small keyring USB sticks breed like rabbits.

The cylinder contains two local Admin accounts' passwords so I can get back into the computer.
It's having at least one spare local Admin account that provides protection against the user profile corruption that your brother appears to have been afflicted by.

    All the best,

That sounds like a good idea Denis if and when my brother gets back to me I shall get him to do something substantial to keep his passwords. The trouble is the distance between him and I or I could actually handle the machine to do something with.
