How do i Gain Control of "C" Drive

I have tried several things to wrestle control of the "C" drive into my control.
Nothing has worked. I have spent 4 hours reading and trying stuff at this point.

Anyone have a way that works?

Windows version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.2251)

Could you expand upon this by providing a little more detail? Is there some sort of task that you cannot perform? Did something happen that changed the default behavior?

If you could just provide some detail upon what the end goal is, we may be able to help further. I ask because there are some limitations placed there by default and we need to first determine if the issue you are seeing is caused by expected limitations or with a problem that is out of character with normal behavior.

    Thanks!

I have been trying to edit and save an excel file thats on my "C" drive.
When i try to do that, i get an error message that says that the .xls file is read only. (Which in the properties section of Excel does not have the read only box checked) but, i am given the option to save a copy under another name. When i try that, an error message pops up that says "A required privelage is not held by the client". So, im not able to save a copy at all.

I have tried giving "everyone" full permission"
I have tried giving my computer name full permissions
I have tried giving "User" full permissions
I have tried the reg edit where you set the UAC to 0
And several other things that at this point i cant remember.

    Nothing changed....
I installed the OS on a 1TB SSD.
This is a new computer build, and once it was up and running, i installed a new Samsung 2TB SSD for storage.
But, i have no ability to ghange any file on the "C" drive.

If you are trying to modify files in the root of C:, saving will be problematic unless you do this:

    1) Create a folder on the C: drive and save to that rather than the root of the drive.
    2) Open Excel by right-clicking and choose to run as Administrator. Then you should be allowed to save.

Let me know if for some reason that does not help.

You'll need to reinstall windows to sort out that mess.

The root is protected to prevent virus and if you mess with to much you will brick the pc lots of files are protected to keep virus at bay

Yes. Starting with Windows 10 writing to the root of the C: drive is heavily protected in order to stop malware putting anything there.

    Theophilus20,

I suggest that you use this thread for the whole of your problem and not pursue
Office Excel 2010 Says "Read Only" but its not
    separately.

    Best of luck,
