    password issue

Well here we go again. Just got my Dell back all updated and ready to roll. I thought I better password protect it - created one - for local account. Screen comes up asks for password - mind you, I wrote this down clearly and legibly - it says "incorrect" -- is there anything I can do to override this? It will not let me on my system. Aargh.

I believe so. I set it up and it called it "local" - I thought they used to be called, standard and admin.

Standard and Admin are just account typs not the name you used for the account. Log in with the name and password you used when booting into safe mode.

I'm aware they are account types. This one was called, local. I will look up how to boot into safe mode. Thanks.

If the password contains numbers and you are using the numeric keypad, make sure that Numlock is on.

When you enter your password, click the eyelet or whatever it's called to verify the correct password is entered.
If you have only a Local Account, that means you do not have any Administrator privileges.
However, I believe you have an original account.

"Just got my Dell back all updated and ready to roll. I thought I better password protect it - created one - for local account."
What was the original account & password before creating your local account?
Was the original account a Microsoft or Local Administrator account?

I haven't used a Local account for a long time, but you won't be able to get into Safe Mode if all you've got is a Local account w/o knowing the password of the original account that I know of as you might be asked for the password of the original account.

When you created the Local account, did you answer the security questions?

When trying to log in to the Local account, are there options just below it?
If so, what are the options?
You might be asked for the security questions for the Local account.
