Windows Hello fingerprint suddenly stopped working.

I added a USB fingerprint reader to my MSI GS75 Stealth laptop the day I bought it three years ago. It has worked fine since day one.

Recently it stopped reading my fingerprints. I removed the stored info and tried re-registering my fingerprints. Windows takes me through the process, then to setting the PIN by going to my MS account. When I'm done setting the pin, I get back to the original sign-in setup page, but I get no message saying the FP reader is set up. It does not work.

This has to be something with Windows, as I have now tried three different USB FP readers that work on my other machines, including the one with Win 11. Device manager shows no problem with the drivers for any of the readers.

I've scoured the web and looked at all the remedies, and I seem to be doing the same processes.

    Try this:

Begin by making sure that you have drivers available for it.

Locate the device in Device Manager and choose to uninstall it. If it asks if you want to completely remove the driver, choose to do so.

Reboot, then install the driver that you have.

Setup the fingerprint reader again and see if it now works.

    You might try this:

(Ok, it's a Dell article but not Dell-specific).

Thanks for the suggestions. I've done them before, but tried again. No go.
