    Weird Account's Issue

Built a laptop with W10 on it. Made my son an admin on the machine. Weird issue he's just reporting to me....Apparently he logs in as himself however under the users folder in This PC, It lists his sister's name and no trace of his account folder anywhere. You can go into the Manage part and you'll see his account but not his sisters. I have never seen this. As a side note he is taking some IT classes. Not sure if some of the apps they had him installed maybe changed something.

Nope, sounds like his sister had used the computer with her Live account. Just because the folder is under a different name does not mean anything if he is the sole user.

To confirm that the given user folder path belongs to the relevant username:-

In all steps, ignore user 'accounts' called DefaultAccount, defaultuser0/1/…, Guest, WDAGUtilityAccount

    Step 1 Run this command
    Code:
    wmic useraccount get name,SID
This tells you the SID for each username.

Step 2 Run RegEdit, go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Step 3 For each of the SIDs in the Registry SubKeys beginning S-1-5-21, select it and look at its ProfileImagePath entry.

Step 3 shows you which SID relates to the given user folder path & the results of Step 1 tell you which UserName that SID relates to.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Weird Account Issue

Thanks for the followup. I found the profile. It's under his sisters name with a .bak at the end in the registry. That's his account when he logged in under his name it would show her name. I changed the name to his name and that somehow disabled this account. Is it possible to get it back active and change the name back to my son's name?

Personally, I'd never change an account name. I'd create a new account with the desired name instead & delete the old one.
But here's how to do it
    Change User Name - TenForumsTutorials

Add Local Account or Microsoft Account - TenForumsTutorials
Change Account Type [Standard-Admin] - TenForumsTutorials
    Delete User Account - TenForumsTutorials

And, just for info, here's how to change a user folder path
Change Name of User Profile Folder - TenForumsTutorials
I'd never do this either. I'd create a new local account with the username I wanted in order to create that folder path.

And here's an example of handing user account .bak entries

I'm only posting this link because you mentioned a .bak entry and I think this tutorial explains the situation quite decently.

I suggest you start again from scratch. Create a local, password-protected Admin user account for your son.
And create an additional [spare] local, password-protected Admin user account so you can be confident of getting back in control of the computer if his Admin account ever gets corrupted.

    Best of luck,
