I have two OSes on the same digital license. Win 10 and Win 11, on the same computer.
BUT.... I only physically hook one of my SSDs up at a time.

I believe this is the loophole that allows me to do it.
Whereas, your two SSDs can SEE each other, when one is in use.

You mentioned you use backup software. If so, your best solution is to restore your backup (from before this permissions/admin) problem started... to the OLD SSD, then try again.
That is what I suggested above.

Then you can either clone the old SSD to the new and then do the In-Place upgrade, or you can do the In-Place upgrade on ther old SSD, and THEN clone it to the new SSD.

As I said, I think the two OSes on one digital license will only work if you only hook one of the SSDs up... at a time.
Ok I understand how that would cause a problem when both were visible to each other. I can't use the system image I created for the old drive as now the ownership has changed windows can't find it when I tried to do a system restore. The old image (made with windows back-up and restore) is under a different admin name so it's now become invisible to windows backup image search. Thanks for the help but I think I've created a nightmare of which I think I must walk away from. Life is an expensive experience.

    Bummer.
That's why we don't use the Windows backup software. That and other problems, like it doesn't work well.
Even Microsoft recommends you don't use their backup software.

Most use Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper (both have free versions), for our backup tasks.

I guess you should probably just redo your clean install on the new SSD (with no other drives connected), then you could use a Linux Live USB to get to the things you want, from your old SSD.

    Issue Solved

Hi Guys first up thanks for the assistance with this. I just wanted to let you know I was able to boot the old SSD with a USB boot I'd set up when I first installed Windows after my build was up and running. I did try to boot from this USB the other day but I had no luck, but something started niggling at me and I thought maybe (as I'd placed all the boot files inside it's own folder) the change I made stopped the search for the boot files as I'd hidden them inside a folder. I didn't realise that I should have just left it the way it was when created.

So I returned the files to the original way they were set up and BINGO! I was able to use it to boot into windows to do a repair my PC. I then was able to find the system image on my back up SSD and did the restore which was 6 months old (which I didn't mind as I thought that might be a good thing) long story short it's operational again and I'm able to have full access. Again thanks for the help much appreciated.
