    Changing sign-in password clue

I have a brand new PC running Win10Pro, and set it up to sign in using an account password. I also entered a password clue which is now displayed when I mis-type my password. Sadly the clue is a bit too obvious and I would like to change the clue but not the password. Is there an easy way to do this, instead of going through all the rigmarole of changing the password?

    Hello, Andy.

It is completely possible to change your password hint on Windows 10 without going through all the “rigmarole ” of changing the password. Just do this:

Step 1- On the search bar, type “Settings” then locate and click on “Accounts”.
Step 2- On the left navigation pane, locate and click on “Sign- In Options”, then click on “Password”.
Step 3- Type your current password/new password and the hint that you want to provide under “Password Hint”.

Thanks James. The system allowed me to change my security questions without changing my password, but not to change my password hint without changing my password, but it did easily allow me to change my password to the same password and then select a new hint. The reason I was reticent about changing my password is that the sign-in screen gives me this option after having mis-typed my password, but when I click on it I get the message "This feature requires removable media such as a USB flash drive. Please connect a USB flash drive and then try again."

What version are you using, as you now get 3 security questions.

edit: just checked and if you change local password, it still uses hint but if you add a new user it uses the security approach. Typical inconsistency LOL.

As an aside, a lot do not like the security questions as too obvious answers.

What I do is use a code in answer e.g. if Pet Name is Brody, I might put it in reverse e.g. Ydorb (I am not going to reveal my code but use that as example).

So even with a hint, you could encode it someway e.g. File donations - who would ever guess to use 1st two letters of each word? Of course, that assumes you do not forget your coding method LOL.

All sorted now thanks cereberus. I just got misled by the message on the startup screen telling me I need a USB flash drive and then never thought to go into settings to fix it, duh.
