Do I have to stay logged in on my microsoft account?

This seems to be the weekend of computer issues. Anyways, I updated from office 2010 to office 365 on Friday. So far, I'm not a fan of 365 but I may need some more time with it to get comfortable. I notice in word and excel, there is my avatar for my ms account and that I'm signed in. When I signed out, my computer froze and the 2 icons on the lower right for off did nothing except when I moused over them, power off, restart and sleep came up but clicking on any of them did nothing. Eventually the computer restarted and I was again automatically signed in. Does office 365 need to have me signed it for it to work? I have uninstalled one drive since I have no use for it. I'm on win10 pro 21H2.

According to link below, you have to sign in at least once per month to maintain subscription:

This means it should work fine offline in the rest of 29 days.
Why it doesn't is subject to figure out, but since I'm hater of MS cloud hegemony I don't know.

Thanks for the reply. I do not store any of my files in the cloud. In fact, I uninstalled one drive. I prefer all my files to be on my hard drive and my backups. Does this mean I need to be continually signed into my ms account for office 365 to still function after 30 days?

Yes, you need to sign in at least once per month otherwise office would deactivate until you sign in again, after which you can sign out for the next 30 days.

While signed out, office should work just fine, if it doesn't that's a separate issue to be investigated.
