Both accounts have my name, but one has my photo, the other has a face symbol. netplwiz is unset, yet the face symbol seems to be trying to auto login, but the password fails. If I select user with my photo, I can then login normally.
    Jim,

The good news is that many others have seen the same problem.

They have solved it by setting / unsetting NetPlWiz.

So whatever the current NetPlWiz state actually is, I suggest you try cycling it through a couple of times [setting it then unsetting it, setting it].

    Best of luck,

OK guys here is the latest news. I fiddled with settings all day yesterday, must have done at least 20 shutdown and re-starts. But, when I quit for the day, I still had the ghost. But, this morning the ghost is gone! I changed settings and I now have auto log-in working. One interesting thing, there is a setting "Require Windows Hello Sign-in For MS Accounts" that can be on or off. If it is on, netplwiz has no option for turning password requirement on or off. It is currently set off. Starting the PC ends up at a screen with my photo above a Welcome word, then the home screen. If require password is turned on, starting the PC ends up on a screen with no log-in window until I click the screen, then it shows a normal log-in window.

So, problem solved, even though I am not sure why the ghost went away overnight.

Thanks for all of the help.

    Beat regards, Jim

    Jim,

If you ever need to fiddle with NetPlWiz again, note that the NetPlWiz tutorial [see my earlier post] explains how to resolve the lack of a password-required checkbox and includes a link to the relevant tutorial for that part of the job.

    All the best,

    Jim,

That sounds to me like a description of the Lock screen - see
Enable or Disable Lock Screen - TenForumsTutorials
    and the further explanation at

    All the best,
