    Windows 10 face recognition

    Hello,

I am trying to fix the face recognition of my windows 10 laptop. It uses to work fine but stop working around June of this year. I have been using fingerprint or PIN since then. I think Windows Hello is fine since I can use my fingerprint.
I have tried many times to reload the driver for my IR camera with no change. I have tried to downgrade the driver same result not working. I have removed the IR camera from device manager and get it reinstall same result.

I went to parameter and my signin option and removed the face recognition that was configured. Now when I tried to configure it I can’t, I get an error that it can’t activate the camera and to make sure it is working fine.

I found in another forum that for windows 10 Hello Face recognition to work you need 2 services running: Infrared monitor service and Connected user experiences and telemetry service. I have the second service running but not the Infrared monitor service. According to my research it uses irmon.dll. I can't find that dll on my laptop.

    Questions:
Do these 2 services are really needed to run face recognition?
If yes how can I restore the irmon.dll?

This is my current version of windows 10:
    Édition Windows 10 Professionnel
    Version 20H2
    Date d’installation 2021-01-09
    Version du système d’exploitation 19042.1348

Sorry for the French wording 😉
    Thank you for your help,
    Luc

Hi, have you downloaded the driver for your camera from your manufacturer's site and tried to use that?

No specs for your PC- make and model?

You're correct - Face recognition (Hello) uses IR.

Thanks. Have you modified any services on your laptop or used any relevant tweak tools?
I.e. are your services in their default state?
    Reference:
Restore Default Services in Windows 10

Tool including repair options such as restoring services to default: Tweaking.com's free repair tool.

As to why you can't successfully install the driver, I have no idea, I'm afraid. Your laptop is relatively new and high spec.

I suggest you post a question on Lenovo's site or ask their support to get help particular to your model.

    Hi,

No I have not used any tools to modify or repair services on my laptop, as far as I know.

When I look at the list of service in the article Restore Default Services in Windows 10 I don't see the Infrared Monitor Service listed. This is why I ask if that service needs to run.

For the driver I probably did not explain properly what happend. I am able to install the driver from the Lenovo web site and it reported the installation successfull. But it did not resolve the problem of getting the infrared camera to work with Windows hello. I treid going back one version and it still did not resolve the problem of getting the IR camera working.

In addition to the camera driver, you need to update the camera firmware.
