Pros and cons of the 'Remember me/Stay signed in"-check box

Am using a password manager to autofill the credentials when logging in into forums, bank accounts, etc.
Specifically with forums, there often is a checkbox 'Remember me' or 'Stay signed in', or something similar.
There is 1 important 'pro' when checking that option: whilst creating a forum post and needing to check things here and there, there is a chance of being logged out in the background – for safety reasons.

User will notice this once submitting his post and often he/she has lost all the text and must consider: start all over, or, well, let it rest (which would be a waste of time).

I have set/checked this 'Remember me' on a few forums and noticed that I do not need to unlock my password (with a master password) but can still access such sites. Sites show my userID and I can go on to sub forums.

As Microsoft Edge > Settings > Saved password states "You have 0 saved passwords"
So... I can only but assume that the login credentials are saved on the respective server of the forum?

I am writing this because I was drafting a post on tenforums, but got signed out in the background.
After signing in again, I got a blank page and could not get any further. So I signed in separately, went on to my forum post and could recover a part of it.
IF... those are stored on the server (again, just a guess) in what way are they stored? Plain text, visible for everyone having access or encrypted or what?
Is there a way to have such settings synced to Edge on Android?

    Thanks

Normally 'remember me' means a cookie is set in your browser.
Thus that is only available for someone with access to that browser on your PC.

Even some financial sites offer this for first stage login, but there's a second or 2FA to follow for security.

Thanks a lot. To be honest, I was a bit naive more or less assuming that cookies would only involve website matters (what websites were visited, ads rejected/accepted, etc.) but confidential matters such as login credentials would be accepted from that.
    Anyway, thanks again!

Hmm.. whilst writing the above, out of curiosity, I wonder whether 'Remember me' or 'Stay logged in' fields could be stored within a password manager, i.e. in which case there would be no local storage.

    Later...
Probably correct but nonetheless rather 'special'.

In Edge > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data
then checked tenforums, locally stored data.
    Removed all.

Went over to tenforums again, did a refresh and the remember me was filled automatically.
Likely this has been 'set' once, though I wouldn't know where/when.

Any fixed field can potentially be stored by your password manager. E.g. one of my banks has a 'remember me' option for 1 of its first 2 fields - I don't use that, and the fields are auto-filled by the pw manager.

    - perhaps by Edge's pw manager?

I am also using a password manager. I just tried on a clean VM. "Clean" means: no applications at all, except the default Windows.
There is an Edge icon on the desktop, nothing more. Accessing Tenforms I got this window "We care about your privacy' blah blah. Noticed that remember me was already checked. Can only but assume this is by design.
I even 'reset' this clean Windows VM - still the same - the box is checked.

Makes things even stranger: for the sake of argument, let's say that this box is checked by desgin/default, why is it then that I was logged out in the background?
(and after logging in and restoring, I got back a part of my post only)

    Well, anyway, thanks again.
