User profile migration options - Helpdesk PC replacements

Replacing peoples PC's it's a real pain making sure we get everything over.

We're currently moving PPLs personal folders over to OneDrive and it will be great I'm sure,
although it's a real pain getting Redirected/Offline folder data back onto the PCs and then onto OneDrive.
- We will get there but it is a tedious task that MS could have done much more to make convenient!

But even after that we will still have PC replacement issues as
1. many of our users does not find making a sync account in their browsers important (until they loose data)..
2. they might save data in strange places like EndNote/OneNote databases outside their profile
3. they have all kinds of custom shortcuts etc.

Is there an easy way to make sure all the above, browser favorites, saved homepage passwords, along with Desktop shortcuts, Taskbar links, Quick links and Recent files links
can be transferred over to a new PC?

Well we have trid a lot of different things, OneDrive being one of them, and trying to make users create a sync account in their browser.
However when we figure out they did not or that they saved stuff outside their profile, it is bad!

Somehow we need to make sure the primary browsers settings, favorites, cached passwords and random documents scattered out over the system drive are all found so we can move them over..

I have just started, on recommendation, looking at User State Migration Tool from MS which look very promising, apart from the grim fact that it is a command line tool and also involving XML files for configuration.
But I gather we can setup some simple command we can run from a network drive to collect/restore the user data on replacements.

We have used USMT along with USMTGUI for many years and I can highly recommend it.

USMT is partly controlled by XML files that can be altered by you.
The MigUser.xml does exactly what you want; More or less move over the whole user experience, not just the documents.
Also, MigUser.xml has a section where you can add document types you'd like USMT to scan the whole system for.
- There's already quite an extensive number of file types added but the Ehlertech reference XML files are far better updated.

Also regarding browser favorites- and passwords migration I recommend using the Ehlertech reference XML files, as they support the latest Edge, Chrome and Firefox browsers.
