Only admin user acc blocked by rejected passwoord

I cannot access laptop since creating a new Local User Account.
I have a problem because I misunderstood the jargon on the "sign in with a Local Account instead of a Microsoft Account" info (not this tutorial).

I understood it is possible to have a Microsoft User Account AND a Local User Account. So I completed the procedure for signing on with a Local User Account. I was a bit surprised that I had to create a new account but did so.
Now I find that my Microsoft User Account has disappeared from the Control Panel. It has been replaced by the new Local User. Neither did I expect the new Local User Account would be given Admin Privileges. One of the reasons for the change was to avoid using an Administrator Account for day to day business.

Can you advise the best way forward please ?

Fortunately at present the data on the Microsoft Account is still present in its User Folder and has been backed up elsewhere. Can I simply copy this to the new User Account ?

Only way to enter ff info from mobile is copy and paste.

Did you make the Local Account a Standard or Administrative? Is it the only account? Did you write down the password you assigned?

Usually a Microsoft account, Local account administrator and a Local account "standard account" are the accounts to be used in normal use.
An administrator account should always be needed to be available in normal use.
--- A Microsoft account or a Local account administrator.
--- In my case I have both.
--- The reason is that if one of the administrator account acquires an issue, the other administrator becomes useful in troubleshooting issues.

Many times it's been recommended to use a Local account which is a standard account w/o Admin privilege's.
--- With that said, you do not want to use only a Local account w/o having at least one administrator such as a Microsoft account or a Local account administrator available.

"Neither did I expect the new Local User Account would be given Admin Privileges. One of the reasons for the change was to avoid using an Administrator Account for day to day business."
--- This indicates that you have a Local account administrator.

The subject of this thread is "Only admin user acc blocked by rejected passwoord"
--- Please verify: does that mean the Microsoft account password you were using doesn't work on the new Local account administrator?
--- Or did you create a new password in your new Local account administrator?
--- And did you answer security questions?

It sounds to me as though you might have converted your MSAccount into a local account but I am not at all sure.

What response do you get to the command
    Code:
    net user

Thank you very much for your reply. Sorry for delay.
    -
I have been a long time coming back because I was concerned I had misremembered my password and I could not check either the new one or the Microsoft one via the external media on which I had recorded them.
Fortunately though I found the rough note I had made of the new one.
I wanted to retry using both passwords again before I caused any more bother and did so last night and early this morning to no avail. I decided to change the Microsoft password. It was quite a performance on the mobile, and did not appear to have helped BUT:
To my amazement I succeeded about 2 hours ago in accessing the laptop with new Local Account password it has been consistently rejecting. I assure you I tried this a lot of times both with and without the onscreen keyboard, up until then. I have since shut down and been able to re-open.

I should probably mention that I had taken the step of changing my LAPTOP permissions to default the day before yesterday and wonder if that caused all this bother. I was still getting problems with Windows failing to save documents, or failing to save to the folder I dictated. The permissions are a problem for another thread I know. But they should at least be in a straight forward condition i.e. the same as when PC was set up.

Interestingly when I looked at the Properties/Security for the previous Microsoft User Folder, which still shows in the Windows C directory under the previous email address, the User title has changed to the new name. So you are right. The new supposedly Local User has taken over the old Microsoft Account.

So where do I go from here? Do I need to go away and sort out the permissions first ?

    net user result:

Having trouble downloading readable copy of result.

    Shows User Accounts
new "Local" Admin User upgraded (?) to Micosoft
Local Standard User with User Folde rcurrently in use.
    son louis.

    Shows as Default Users
Local Standard User Account not presently in use so no User Folder.
    son Thomas.

Not sure if I should enter the actual names of the accounts here though a screenshot would show them.

    Thanks again for your time.

I'm sorry but the clean install that we discussed all that time ago seems to me to be the best thing to do.
You keep getting account-related problems and whatever caused you to reset permissions is yet another problem.
    Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials
    - I suggest you do the clean install whilst not connected to he internet.
    - The user account you create during installation will be a local, Admin account. Give it a password and write that password down. Use single words as usernames [only because having spaces or special characters such as & in usernames can complicate referring to them in batch files etc].
    - Create all the other accounts you want including any that you will eventually want to convert into MSAccounts. Give them passwords and write their passwords down.
    - Their usernames and their folders within C:\Users will match.
    - Then go online to do everything else like activation, updates
    - Then, if you want to use an MSAccount, convert the chosen local account into an MSAccount while you are online. Its folder within C:\Users will stay as it was. Its username within Windows [as reported by the net user command] will also stay as it was even though what will be displayed onscreen will be the Full name you registered online for that MSAccount when it was created.

    All the best,

After following through with Denis recommendations, create a system image backup.
--- I use Macrium Reflect Free monthly during the week before Patch Tuesday
--- In addition I also save my data each time.
Also when making changes to your settings, create a system image backup & save your data again before making changes.

Keep these tutorials handy for when they can be helpful

My text on this thread keeps disappearing.

Thanks to both of you for your good advice. My sons have offered to do the clean install for me and as one has experience of doing it, I may accept but I will go through the tutorials and advice first.

Denis: Sorry I was less than clear. When I started the first thread on this subject, I had 2 Administrator Accounts, one Microsoft and one Local User. By the time I got to the end of the Repair Install I had changed the User Accounts at least once. At one stage I replaced the Microsoft Account with Local User Accounts but found I could not easily manage without at least one Microsoft. I finally ended up with a new Microsoft Account with the ID of the Microsoft email address and 2 Local Users both standard.

I was trying to change the status of one of the Local Accounts but the Microsoft sign in page would not allow this and so I created, as I thought, a new Local User Account with Admin privileges instead. My Windows 10 OS does still seem to be corrupt in some way as it simply changed the name of the Microsoft Account instead. I don`t know why it kept refusing the password. It was correct as is obvious because it is now accepting it. Oddly enough, following a change of the Microsoft Account password.

I will keep the advice of "Me and My Computer" in mind as well.
I think I may be able to stagger on long enough to check my backup situation before I set out on the clean install.

Don`t know where I would be without Windows Ten Forums - probably round the bend !

I believe that Denis post #6 is the best advice to rely on

Sorry to be quite clear, the newly created account shows up on Control Panel as a third Local Account the old name replaced by the new account name.
Registry shows its Profile Image Path is same as the previous Microsoft Account. Data seems to be intact.
It has administrative privileges. There is presently no Microsoft Account. It has been replaced by the new Local Account.
