How to have two local accounts

Since I can remember, I was able to create two local accounts on my Windows system and have one as Administrator and one as Local Account. The latter is the default. On my main PC that is still the case, but I have not reinstalled Windows on it for a couple of years.

I needed to reinstall on my laptop today and now a second account has to be a Microsoft account. Is there any way around this?

    Hi,

    Open an elevated cmd prompt.

    Code:
    net user username password /add
    net localgroup group username /add
Where you replace username password and group with the one you want.

What do you intend to clean install? Your specs say 'Windows 11', do you intend to clean install that, or Windows 10? Are you installing Home or Pro? Do you want the administrator account created during the initial setup to be a local account?

If it's W10 Home, then you must disconnect from the internet while setting up, else your only option will be for the first account (which will be an administrator) to be a Microsoft account. If its' W11 Home, then it gets more complicated....

Pro does offer the option to create an offline account (in small print at the bottom left of the account setup screen). Once you have created your first account as a local administrator account, then you can sign into it and create a second standard user account, either as a local account or a Microsoft account.

W10 Pro and the problem was that when I tried to create standard local a/c it was not an option.
    Thanks for your input.
PS Win 2 is in a VM I don't know why I specified Win 11. I will try to change it

    Dave,

Just for future reference, I noticed some mixing of terms in your first post.

    - User accounts can be local or MSAccount-linked.
    - User accounts can be Standard or Admin.

There are no constraints about which is what.

    - A local account can be Standard or Admin.
    - An MSAccount-linked account can be Standard or Admin.

    All the best,
    Denis
