21H1 version of Windows 10 Pro - make PIN go away?

I'm not having any success at turning off the PIN login on the latest install of Windows 10 Pro (21H10). I've followed the obvious way which is posted in several places on the net but I've failed. Sometimes(?), Microsoft sends me the account verification code on my cell phone and when I enter the code it comes back and wants me to generate a new pin! Is there a fool proof way of getting back the old method of using the Microsoft Account password and telling netplwiz to login automatically. Seems like Microsoft is trying to force everybody to us a PIN and no auto login?!

I've never used a PIN, but here's the ten Forum's tutorial...

Hi, this is how it should work:
Remove PIN from your Account in Windows 10

    - more PIN-related tutorials below the main text.

Hopefully you still know your password- that -er- underpins everything, and is always required in certain normal cirumstances.

And yes, you can set your PC for automatic login to a specific account: (note the section in pink)
Enable or Disable Passwordless Sign-in for Microsoft Accounts

Here's a screen shot of the dialog box to delete a PIN. The Remove button is grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

There's no problem using your PIN to set autologin ON. In netplwiz, uncheck the box, and when asked for the password, type the PIN and confirm the PIN. Then OK.

Done. Reboot. You won't have to stop to type in your PIN or your password any more.
