    Windows password stopped working

I normally use my PIN, rarely my PASSWORD. I have just discovered Windows is refusing to accept my Password even though it is the latest and written down. Fortunately the Pin is still OK, but as the Password is necessary in some situations I need to change it to something which will be accepted. But the CHANGE PASSWORD procedure asks for my 'old password' first, so I am in a Catch22 dilemma. What do I have to do?

Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges, execute the following command to change your user account password.

    Code:
     Net User %username% *

Thanks for the reply. This is the response I get:

    The syntax of this command is:NET USER[username [password | *] [options]] [/DOMAIN] username {password | *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN] username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN] username [/TIMES:{times | ALL}] username [/ACTIVE: {YES | NO}]

What do I do in response to this?

I have done that, and get the response as above ie. nothing which tells me how to change the password. Perhaps I am being slow to grasp what is required

Change the password using Option 5 of
Change passwords of Local and MSAccounts - TenForumsTutorials
You will recognise its Step 4 but might prefer its Step 3.

This method will not require use of the old password.

This command line works successfully for me. Why don't you post a screenshot of your results? Or, if you prefer, follow the tutorial that Denis has posted.

When you copy it, make sure you are getting the * at the end also

You can also just type it in. putting it in bold so it can be seen easier. There is one space between the % and the *. Missing the star is causing the "The syntax of this command is".....

    Net User %username% *
