HBCD_PE iso is the hiren's boot cd. It boots into its own PE (environment, linux based i believe) and allows you to modify the passwords on the Windows partition.

ISO2USB exe is the program that they chose to use to make the HBCD iso bootable on a thumb drive... but as i mentioned, i would just use Rufus as it is portable and reliable.

ok i did see rufus so i will look into that program and put it on a thumb stick for just emergencies. maybe a sd card and a adapter. if it is not real big. and see if it will let me into the windows to change the password if and when i find myself in that spot again. do you happen to have and videos of how to use that program?

ok i tried to download it and chrome blocked it. first time i ever had chrome block a program without giving me the big red screen. so chrome thinks this is a bad program i guess. any other ideas maybe? thanks

Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

rufus is clean. that is the legit site. just allow it if its blocked. no harm there.
hiren's boot isnt that big of a file. roughly 1gb i think for the whole PE

ok i installed hirens Download ISO2USB.exe to your computer. to a 2gb thumb stick but i do not see and exe or application on the stick so do you know if this stick will run it it is booted to? i guess i can test it on my other laptop just in case it messes up but before i do maybe someone here will know. and can you tell me what the reason was for that video to tell me to download the HBCD_PE_x64.iso file. when i clicked on that one windows came up and asked for a utility to run it. so does the iso2ubs when booted to run the hbcd_pe_x.64 file? if so i have to get a bigger stick and i did not have the room to put both on the 2gb stick. thanks

    ok, so you

    1) install Rufus OR iso2usb < Done
    2) launch ^ whichever you installed
    3) select your device to use (it should have you choose your USB drive)
    4) select ISO to burn to bootable usb drive (this is where you choose the HBCD ISO)
    5) burn it
    6) boot from usb drive

wow that sound like a lot of work. as on that laptop i have to restore she did not have a cd drive nor did we have any burnable cds. i was kind of hoping to find one of these utilities that would do the whole process form the usb drive. i was able to to do the esb restore the system but she lost her data and pictures. she did not have a backup so that is on her if she was not smart enough to have a recent backup. but she did get her pc back up and running again.

so what i'm going to have her do is get a usb backup drive and run the kay replicator to back up her folders and then she will have some backup at least.

thanks so i believe if there is no program that will run on the usb and let you go into windows and reset the password for logging on, then at least i can get the pc back by just reinstalling windows.

    thanks again for the help

if its already wiped and reinstalled, you could always replace the ease of access on-screen keyboard with command prompt. if it ever happens again, just launch cmd from the sign-in screen and reset the password there.

as for backups, just use AOMEI and clone the hdd to an external hdd once a week. then if it dies or you lose files you merely have to swap the hdds and worst case scenario... you lose 1 week of data

yes i could do that but with karens i can just copy the folders back as karens copies the folder complete even the program run without reinstalling them. but your way is an option. the issue she had was the person put in a program the would not let you do anything when you tried to do a reset it took you to a command to insert the reset usb stick and of course you had to buy that from them fortunately they were not able to get into the bios to turn off the boot order so the esb stick was able to just restore windows for her. and like i said if she would have been smart enough to have any backups she would of had something back. with the esb most of the time you can just do a restore but the scammer was able to program the pc to not let me go back to a restore, so all i had left was a reinstall. so that was better then nothing. i guess i could of removed the drive and put it on my pc run some virus programs to clean it and then go in and copy her doc's and photos out but i figure now she may learn her lesson. i told her to get a usb backup drive off ebay for 50'$ or so and then run it nwo and then. thanks for the help
