    Logoff/Login password prompt

I don't require a password to open Windows. In the past, the same was the case when I logged off (not restart) and then logged back in. No password necessary, just hit the button on the logon page to enter Windows.

But now, when I log off, I am asked for a password, which does not exist, and I am forced to reboot the machine, whereupon I am ushered into Windows without being required to login.

    How to I fix this?

If you have no password then you can just log in without entering anything in the password box.

So what happens when you try this?
Perhaps it will make a difference if you click in the password entry box to, as it were, enter nothing?

That's precisely the problem. In the past, I would do just that, but now, it insists on a password that does not exist, and I must go to the "Power" icon at the lower right side of the page and select "Restart".

So the question is, on the one hand, why does windows insist on a password at the login page, but not on a normal bootup?

I do not know what to suggest.

I just created a local user account with no password, logged out of my normal user account and selected it for login. This is what was displayed.

I clicked on the SignIn button and went straight through to its Desktop.
I repeated this logout-login procedure in case its first login had been different but this is how it always appeared.

The username of the problem account is not Administrator, is it?

Add Require a password on wakeup to Power Options in Windows 10

add that to your power options. set it as no. reboot computer. after login > lock or sleep. if still prompted for password to logon, you may have netplwiz or sysinternals autologon configured (i would assume that you would know that tho...). last options for speedy fix, use Hiren's to boot and blank out password for account...
