Can't switch back from Microsoft account to Local account

I had on my W10 a local account as administrator. I've logged it with my Outlook account, in order to purchase some item from Microsoft store. Now I want to revert back to Local account, but doesn't work. Of course I'm using my now my Outlook password instead of the local password which was different.
After switching to Microsoft account Windows updated to 21H1 build 19043.

I've verified my account on Windows with alternative email address, yet it says my identity is not verified.
Settings > Accounts > Your info > Sign in with a local account instead > Sorry, we couldn't verify your identity. Please try again later.

Hi, if you are able to log in to your MS live id account (search for MS live id login e.g.)
Can't switch back from Microsoft account to Local account-5.png

then you can change or add the means of verification.

You may be prompted thus when you log in:
Can't switch back from Microsoft account to Local account-1.png

Once logged in, you have some options e.g.
Can't switch back from Microsoft account to Local account-2.pngCan't switch back from Microsoft account to Local account-3.png

It may be that going through that process will help you find a way to verify yourself.

Note: I had some difficulty accessing that site here this morning- first I got a certificate warning, then site not available, finally success. That might be related to your problem.. I don't know.

    Finally, here's the tutorial:
Switch to Local Account in Windows 10

    - albeit it doesn't say anything useful about verification, alas. You could comment on that, below the tutorial.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

That could help - by logging in to your MS live id account you may be able to set up other means of verification which will then work.

Will try and let you know about the results. If works also the procedure how to do it.

There are new on the matter. After enabling 2 step authentication, and having 3 unlock methods, everything stays the same. When the message that my account couldn't be verified is displayed, what the settings are frozen, and I have to select Settings icon from taskbar -> Close window. So I found on Event Viewer that whenever I follow that step it crashes:

Any idea how to proceed? Clearly Windows 10 has a serious bug. What a coincidence that allows me to switch to cloud account but not back.

Thanks. The clue to finding a solution is probably to search using
    Faulting application name: CredentialUIBroker.exe 0xc0000374

This is not found on tenforums.

There are similar reports. However resolving this may not be straghtforward e.g.
windows 10 - Cannot use Win10 Hello PIN (looping dialog) - Super User

This is interesting, as it shows that a standard routine repair did NOT help. Note what did:
Remote Desktop causes an authentication error for any machine I RDP to. Windows 10. : techsupport

My problem was that I had username in format "company\username"
    - the \ - or more broadly, the format of the user name.

I think this is likely to be one that has no one fixed simple solution.

Finally solved it reverting to a backup that I made of the hard drive few days ago, with Macrium Reflect, before I switched to a Microsoft account.
For some reason, Microsoft is on his way to make our lives miserable. They abandon issues on purpose and don't offer support as convenient.

Microsoft, I don't want you to tell me how to use my computer. I know it's closed source and proprietary, but still.

It does get annoying. In 20H2 it appeared the background colour of tiles on the start menu changed suddenly, and now the introduction of 'News and Interests' on the taskbar introduces a bug that badly affects the system tray if you try to turn it off.

    (Widely reported).

Well oops, I recently turned it off cause I thought it was a bit useless. What bugs does it introduce? Should I just leave it on? I'm on 21H1 now though so might have been fixed since.

It affects a lot of people but not everyone. All the common news sites for Windows have mentioned it that I've seen. If you can hide it with no consequences- that's fine.
