I'd be interested in whether or not SFC helps but I think there has been such confusion about what your symptoms were that, if SFC does not fix it, you could usefully start a new thread on the problem called something like Start menu search hangs if right-click, Run as Admin is used.

And stress in the description that you are able to use Run as Admin in all other respects or you'll just get a long string of misunderstandings.

    Best of luck,
And do post back about SFC,

It's almost like there are two versions of Notepad floating around, and the one discovered by the Windows Search Index does not like to be Run as Administrator.

Do this and post where it thinks it is. Does it match the known location of system32? If it shows a shortcut, what is the .exe location in the Properties?

I'm sorry, it has only just occurred to me - are the applications that have the problem Windows Apps / UWP apps / MS Store apps / whatever other name they use?

Aren't UWP apps unable to run as Admin?
    - I don't use them but I thought somebody else said they had this limitation.
    - How do I run the Win 10 app store in admin mode?! [post #7] -TenForums

There is, apparently, an MS Store version of Notepad so that might be what is on the problem computer.

I'm relatively certain that I've never downloaded the MS Store version of Notepad yet it appears to exist in several locations on my PC. Perhaps if Keith searches for notepad.exe with Everything Search or similar, we will see if the file exists in the expected locations.

BTW, I'd recommend the portable version.

the repair upgrade worked perfectly, but the problem remains Even though SFC scannow, fixed some errors.

will start a new thread as suggested.
