    Hi Though I've read your comments and your suggestions I've not posted e.g needed assistance on tenforums for yonks.
    My partner (she is a SEN Assessor) has a Huaweib MateBook 13 2020 with an AMD Ryzen and 16GB of RAM which I purchased just before Christmas (a nice piece of kit) and I installed Win10Pro and Office 2019. Recently it's been freezing to the point that it was interfering with her work. So I was investigating and decided to go into Safe Mode. Typed in msconfig and rebooted.

    When it did it I ended up in the usual login (it’s so fast I was caught out out) and then presented with a login which failed after being informed that an Application was required, then told it couldn’t get one!
    So we have no option so far to use the passwords that are created (unfortunately the finger print was never enabled). I have an option Smart Reset/Recovery or use Acronis 17, but that’s a month out of date (don't ask)!
    Any thoughts would be appreciated I’ve looked around and this would be the nearest to this issue.

    Hi, assuming you have build 20H2 - you didn't do this as prompted:

    Note: a PIN is accepted when logging in to Safe Mode too with 20H2.
    But as you know, using a PIN does not make the password redundant.

    Typed in msconfig and rebooted.
    Only literally doing that would not lead to Safe Mode.

    Booting to Safe Mode is typically slower for some reason. Are you referring to the boot time? Perhaps you didn't actually restart.

    One way to get to Safe Mode is to SHIFT + left click any Restart option, then work through the advanced startup prompts.

    Freezes are next to impossible to diagnose bar elimination as there are no diagnostic logs. You can perform checks on hardware, perhaps by booting from a suitable live boot disk and using appropriate utilities if the Windows installation doesn't behave stably enough.

    If you can prove the freezing occurs with a fresh Win 10 install (e.g. on a spare disk) or a live boot disk (perhaps easier and more useful) then I guess you'd have a good case to consider warranty RMA.

    Thanks for your reply It was 4am when I managed to send the message and yes it was I'm pretty sure. Got five hours this morning and I'm currently building a new OS for her Yoga X1 that crashed repeatedly (whilst I was in hospital) before we purchased the Deskmate. I'll readcarefully your comments and then move forward (hopefully).

    The machine came with Win10Home so no support there as Imentioned I installed Win10Pro and Office 2019. I’ve had DOS/Windows for over thirty plus years so I know a bit about PCs. I didn’t end up in Safe Mode, just locked out as I explained with no way so far of logging in.

    Not sure if it's going to help you but you could try resetting the password.. (Option 2 on..)
