I just got a refurbished second hand computer and would like to change the user name which is shown under C:\users to one of my own.own liking.
Will someone please tell me how, if possible, to do that?

Seems like an awful lot of work just to satisfy my ego but I will give it a try. Yes, I do have a Macrium backup handy just in case!

Wait, before you do anything, are you desiring to change the present account's name?
I'm wondering if it would a lot easier to simply open a brand new account under the name you want. Get everything you want under that name, copy from the previous account whatever you want. Then, finally, simply delete that un-wanted-name account.
Also, I recommend enabling/activating the built-in admin account -- just in case that power is needed.

I tried that with no luck because of NTUSERDAT in the original 'user' did not want to be copied to the 'new user' nor could I delete it. Go figure!
I learn something new every day in this and other forums! Let us know after getting that name-change for that stubborn account done. :)

Consider starting fresh with a clean install of Win 10. Much simpler and safer.
What I have done is, if able to log in on an account with Administrative Rights, is to first create a new User as desired with Administrative Rights then reboot, should get 2 choices of login, use the new one then remove the old one either saving or not saving documents. Haven't had to activate the hidden Administrator account to do it but is a possibility. It shouldn't be necessary to create a Microsoft account, just a Local account until/unless needing it later. Example of it working is 4 Notebooks I rehabbed and gave to Vision Beyond Borders couple weeks ago and now are in Honduras.
Thanks to every one who replied with their suggestions. After trying all of them with no effect, the system decided to work like I think it should and allowed me to make the change. Go figure! I've no idea why it finally allowed me to change my user name but I am grateful to all who pitched in to help.
