If you do not want to take the worthwhile precautions of backing up your files and making a system image then you should either get on with attempting to fix the broken profile or announce that you are going to use one of the other local, password-protected Admin accounts that you said you had created.

Test that the account you are going to use works correctly as an Admin account by right-clicking on the Start button & selecting Windows powershell [admin] then giving yourself Admin permission to proceed. You can then close the powershell window because the test was about getting there.

That is not what I said. I want to figure out how to override the read only setting that update made before backing them up. Otherwise, backing them up is useless. Most of the files that I want to backup won't even do so because they are read only. Someone on the Microsoft Community Forums suggested that using the Command Prompt might make a difference, but when I asked about that, he must have forgotten that he had posted those links. Now that I ask about the read only detail here, people seem to not know what that is, or that it won't even make a difference. But I know from experience from when my other laptop crashed, that it does make a difference.

Read only makes no difference to the ability to copy a file.

Your constant refusal to take any of the actions necessary to progress towards recovering control of your computer is exasperating. I've had enough, I quit.

Well hopefully there is somebody who will listen. I have not refused to do nothing. I have wanted to take control of my computer, but I have wanted to have full details, and not just partial details. Read-only does make a difference. I have said multiple times that not all of my files will copy. I do not understand why people are not paying attention. Some files will copy, and some will not. The problem with read-only attributes, is also, some files will not write. I do not understand why I ask many questions about certain things that are not being addressed, and they still won't be addressed. I am hoping that if someone won't address them, that at least another person will. This happens on every forum that I visit. So far, I have visited Microsoft Community Forums, and explained that I have needed my Dad's help, and he is busy sometimes, and I don't understand certain things, and one guy must not have understood my explanation, and here I am asking how to override read-only since certain files cannot be copied (and due to the fact that with that attribute, they cannot be written to, and may not function). I have certain programs that are not working too. For instance, I have documents that likely cannot be edited.. Obviously, the update corrupted the files. What if I want to edit saved notepad files, and I cannot, because they are read only? or a word document? that does not make sense to just copy them. I don't understand why someone would refuse to help me to override that attribute and just insist on saying that I refuse help. I am just trying to fix every problem. I am not refusing help. I am asking questions since there are many problems that need to be addressed. i don't understand why people don't like me to ask questions.

I think your dad is trying to teach you some valuable life skills by getting YOU to do the research. Then to form that in to a plan to solve the current dilemma.

You sound exactly like my 14yr old God son, always moaning about how bad his computer is at Fortnite but actually owning a computer = to some of the top gamers would be happy to use, core i9600kf , Z390, 16Gb ram 2 x 1Tb M.2 drives GTX1060.
He's too busy cherry picking people what say on the forums, and not enough asking himself.
He's now getting his dad to fix his brand new less than week old bike cos he can't, all he want's to do is pull wheelies on it, when it's broken, dad will fix it!

A computer follows the law of input and output = you only get out what YOU put in.

How do you know the files are corrupt?
How do you know the profile is corrupt?
Have you made an image... Imaging is NOT the same as copying files.
    Have you run sfc /scannow?
Have you downloaded the latest Windows 10 iso from Microsoft.
Have you mounted the iso and run setup/inplace upgrade to recover your current installation.
    All basic diagnostics.

When/If YOU come to us with a correctly formed argument, we can move forward with a plan.
We ARE listening but not getting any answers to our questions.

The problem was not my god son's computer, it was the Broadband modem router, it was corrupting the data.
His dad bought the same one as I use and now his in game Ping and Latency have all dropped to levels below what's his mates games run at, and it's NOT a gaming modem/router.

Actually, you are wrong. I know what is going on due to research, and the explanation of somebody on the Microsoft Community Forums. You are wrong about my family as well. I have cognitive problems first of all, and second of all, I don't completely understand everything about these things. What I do understand, is that these sites have certain problems addressed, but not all. My dad is not trying to get me to do it all alone. He is usually doing something else. I know what I am talking about. I updated Windows 10 in January, then when I did, everything had disappeared from the desktop, also from the start menu. Also from downloads, documents, etc. The profile still had the same login credentials. Initially it was labeled as an administrator account. All files in C:/users had two folders: The one that was currently in use were under Temp, and the one that were not, were under the profile's name. I tried the initial steps of restarting my computer a few times and nothing changed. Not to mention, when I initially updated Windows, it had an error message saying that it had trouble logging in (or something like that). There was some indication that it was using a temporary profile I believe. I had mentioned these things on Microsoft Community Forums, and I believe that I also researched it. They all said it means the profile is corrupt, and the first step they all said was to restart Windows several times. I did run sfc /scannow. The hard drive is not corrupt. It is only the profile. In the profile, there are certain other problems. It has been a while since I had observed them, so I cannot remember the exact details. I believe one was under PC Info or something like that, when I tried to check system specs. The guy on Microsoft Community Forums told me to look under "about" as if there was some tab. But my system doesn't have a tab. I found some link. The link popped up a prompt with an "ok" button grayed out and the message was something like "windows defender requires an app to open." I had seen several prompts with an "ok" button grayed out that I was unable to click and close.

Not to mention the thing about Read-Only. I know what I am talking about when it comes to the fact that I have tried to copy those files and not all will copy. "Take Ownership" does not work on them. I have not made an image of it as of yet. From my knowledge, that is some way of making some form of a compressed version of the entire hard drive. Right now, I have one profile that is corrupt, two new profiles that are not in use, and several gigabytes of blank space on this hard drive. I am not certain why I might need to make an image of the parts of my hard drive that are not in use. From what was explained earlier, I would access that data after making the image. At the same time, the main profile has every file with a read-only attribute, and I have been asking how to override it.

Another site says they have never been able to fix a corrupt profile, yet Microsoft Community Forums says they can be fixed, but they tend to get corrupt again. This site says I do not need to do a repair install, but edit the registry (many sites use that as a solution). However, one guy said he deleted two profiles by doing so. I am wondering how I might find out about guaranteeing that won't happen to me? I really want to override the read-only thing, and get this whole thing done successfully.

    Joshua,

And I have been trying to help you. I gave you a link to the tutorial on fixing the profile in post #11 and we are now on post #66 without any action having been taken.

Discussing the read-only files before fixing the profile is the wrong way round. But, since you insist,
1 Please post some examples of paths within C:\Users in which the files have the read-only attribute.
2 Please post some screenshots of File explorer that show the path & the read-only attribute for some example files.
3 If you want to, also post the same for some read-only files you have found elsewhere.

I find it a little annoying that this site didn't let me attach all of the jpg files. Also it looked like all of the files that were shared on this thread were shown as attachments (even one that was not). It did show that I attached three of the files that I tried to upload. Now it shows that two of them that it showed, and one that it didn't. I will try to upload others.

    Joshua,

Those are folders not files. The folder read-only attribute is in fact used for something else - the read-only attribute shown for folders [since Windows 7] is effectively meaningless.
If you want to, you can read the explanation by KeithM but you do not need to.

Summary: the read-only property of the folders you posted does not explain why you have been unable to copy your files.

I have suspected all along that what you have referred to as a read-only problem is in fact a permissions issue and that can only be resolved straightforwardly once the user profile is fixed or you simply decide to use a replacement Admin account [which I understand you have already created but may not have tested - post #60].
If it is a permissions issue then using the InstallUSB & Notepad the way I suggested will bypass all permissions and will allow you to backup your files. And backups are always best done now.
I do not know it is a permissions issue, I just suspect it.

The one in program files is a file. I thought about taking a screenshot of the office 2007 shortcuts in Program Data. Those it does not allow me to open the locations; ever since I uninstalled and reinstalled the January update.

Some system folders (Program data) by default, can only be opened by Administrator.
If your the admin you can over ride this.

The reason we want to make an image via Macarium Reflect is it gives us a "Get out of jail card" if things go wrong, and we can start again.

An image is an exact/mirror copy of the c drive kept in a safe place for later use, preferably on a separate backup. As a bonus "Macarium Reflect free" is provided with a few limitations, but this will not impact on any thing we need to do to repair your pc.
