A 64GB USB flash drive is more than enough byte-space to hold the entire Windows 10 full install, repair install, startup repair, and some other nice-to-haves. You simply have to "burn" a Windows 10 ISO supplied by others here or from Microsoft onto said 64GB USB flash drive. Now, what an 8-16GB USB flash drive can hold: a small collection of boot files for the use of "externally booting" into: a backup/restore program, an AV AM search & destroy program, or whatever else can be gotten from the deep pockets of The 'Net.

    I am confused.
People are saying I need 8gb, 16 gb for a bootable media, but to install, need over 100 gb.

You will need an 8 GB USB for the installation media for Win 10, although NOT ALL 8 GB will be used.

With ALL the WUs installed I would say that Win 10 installs at around 10 GB - 15 GB, depending on the version of course.

    I hope this helps.

Some system folders (Program data) by default, can only be opened by Administrator.
If your the admin you can over ride this.

The reason we want to make an image via Macarium Reflect is it gives us a "Get out of jail card" if things go wrong, and we can start again.

An image is an exact/mirror copy of the c drive kept in a safe place for later use, preferably on a separate backup. As a bonus "Macarium Reflect free" is provided with a few limitations, but this will not impact on any thing we need to do to repair your pc.
Well, I know that the shortcuts can be opened, but it won't let me open the file locations. It does, however, open the microsoft office files. it was not like this prior to uninstalling/reinstalling the update. As far as I know, when I link it to my Microsoft account, it is still an administrator.

Previously, people were suggesting that I basically only needed just enough space for a bootable media, and not a full install.. I only purchased a 16 GB Sandisk drive... I am wondering why I need a full install.

What is a WU? I am unfamiliar with this term technically, but i understand that you are saying it won't take up all the space.

At school, with a few distractions, I get lost in some threads. PaulB, I did not know all of Windows 10 will fit onto an 8GB! I learned something new today. Some time ago, I thought my Windows 7 "asked" for any USB flash drive larger than 16GB, my memory is not serving well today.

The one in program files is a file.
Each one of the 3 diagrams you posted shows a folder not a file.

I thought about taking a screenshot of the office 2007 shortcuts in Program Data. Those it does not allow me to open the locations; ever since I uninstalled and reinstalled the January update.
"does not allow me to open the locations" does not mean the same as "read-only"

Summary: I have still not seen a diagram showing a read-only file.

An 8-16GB USB can hold the Windows 10 Install files. That is what is contained in the ISO and extracted onto the InstallUSB.

    Joshua,

Your 16GB USB is indeed more than sufficient for the job of creating a Windows 10 installation USB. Ignore any suggestion otherwise.

Similarly, there is no need to be distracted by discussing WU [Windows update]. It is not relevant to the task facing you.

Please look at screenshot called "progfilesindesign.jpg" that one is in program files, and it is a file. It is read only. If it is not labeled in my post, there is a picture showing an indesign icon, and it shows a shortcut in program files, and shows an attribute of read-only. I understand that file location that is not allowed to open is not read-only. But is blocking me from opening the location. When I re-installed the update, Windows made those files hidden. "Show files or folders," or whatever that option is, did not unhide it. It was not like that when I first installed the update (even though the profile was corrupted. Those links are only shown when I type in the program names in the search bar in the task bar. Then it brings up programdata. when I click on properties, it shows in target: "Microsoft Office Small Business 2007" where it shows "Open file location" it is grayed out. When I went to find the jpg that I am referencing in this post, and I tried to click on it to open it, it did reference Paint, but it had a prompt with "Ok" grayed out. I had to click outside the box to close it. even though it was saved by Paint, it wanted me to re-associate it with paint to open it. I keep getting these various prompts, that i cannot close.

I cannot see progfilesindesign.jpg in any of your 3 diagrams in post #67.

And please stop trying to discuss ten subjects all at once.

1 Get your file backups done,
2 get the system image done,
3 fix the account profile [or decide to use one of the new Admin accounts you said you had created]
4 and test the account's ability to run Admin tasks.

Then you can number all the remaining faults in order of priority and we can work through them one by one. I will suggest the read-only issue as priority number 1 but it will be your decision.
