No. There must be a different reason.

Try making a system image then. That will include your own files but it takes a bit more work to extract them afterwards.

Then get the user account issue resolved. And then the files & applications problems can be addressed.

What is a system image? Will this save program files? What about the hidden Office 2007 files, fonts, and certain system files? What does a system image do, and how is it made? Obviously, I want to repair the profile with a bootable media, and backup files on an external hard drive. That is really all i have access to.

No, you don't. There is no such repair procedure. We've already been through this. Use the profile fix guide that I gave you a link to.

Someone mentioned on that registry fix thread, that two profiles (or something like that) were deleted. It seemed like some information disappeared. Also, I noted that I had some files that I tried to copy were not able to be copied. I mentioned that somebody told me to go to the command prompt to do so, but it would not allow me to do it except by dvds or a usb. On the Microsoft Forum, they told me to use a bootable media to repair the profile I think. They wanted me to put windows 10 on the usb, to fix the profile I think (if I understand correctly). It seems like I am getting completely different instructions here than there. How does editing the registry fix it? What about what those people mention about messing up something? I know that the temp profile uses the same credentials as the moved one, and I do want to back up other things besides C:/users, and so much is read-only. I know that some files were not copying (and not specifically just system files).

In both forums you have asked for guidance on a Repair install and you have then added descriptions of a host of problems. It is very difficult to follow you and that is why you are getting responses that vary.

But your reference to having a corrupted profile allowed me to recommend an appropriate procedure and to point out to you that a Repair install had nothing to do with it.
- I also pointed out the option of just using another Admin local account instead of fixing the defective one.
- All discussion of backups was intended to be as a preparation for fixing the profile issue.

Once you have resolved the user account issue then progress might be possible on the other issues.

How do I backup read-only files? Some of the files won't write to the external hard drive (which aren't all system files). Nobody has answered my question about a disk image. I have mentioned my resources. I have my reasons for not simply just using the new account. I can't move all of the files (as not all are C:/users files). Indeed, if updates corrupted one account, there is no guarantee that updates won't do it again. In previous years, they weren't doing this. I had updated Windows many times, and they weren't doing this. I have noticed that this is not affecting every computer system, but it is affecting many. Also, it didn't seem to do it in Windows Vista. The only thing that did happen, is the blue screen.

3 Make another attempt to back up your files.
3.1 You could try doing it by manually copying the desired files after booting from an InstallUSB and using Notepad as a rudimentary File explorer - see my ditty about booting from USB and using the Command prompt [#10] - TenForums
3.2 If you still cannot copy those files then take your computer to a computer technician, explain your problem and ask for the job to be done for you.

4 If you want to ask for assistance with any of the other problems afterwards then post the problem descriptions as a numbered list so that they can each be addressed one by one. Include screenshots that illustrate what each of the problems are - such as screenshots of File explorer that display the read-only attributes you have referred to. Even if you had decided to ask a computer technician to address these issues as well I would advise the same approach because, otherwise, there will be no mutual understanding and the technician will just wipe Windows 10 and reinstall it [without your applications].

That seems like a command prompt backup instructions. I see that the drives must be browsed. Even if Macrium Reflect can do a disc image, I don't think that my drives can entirely make a disc image. I do not think that external hard drives can boot. I know that DVDs or CDs and possibly USBs can boot. Also, what about that command prompt thing, can it back up to external hard drives? I didn't see anything about that on that link. I am aware that technicians will likely wipe the hard drive, which I prefer not to do. I do not want to wipe my hard drive simply because windows 10 may not be compatible with my computer. I think I should not have to wipe my hard drive every time I update windows. This seems like something a person would need to do when a virus messes up a system as opposed to updating it.
