OK, So I just tried it. Yes, the option is "Sign in with a local account instead". I went back and forth twice. First time I used my old username, second time I used a new user name. The account stayed the same except for what was displayed on the login screen. The folder under Users on the hard drive stayed the same.
Thanks I'll give it a try today and report back.I'm also going to try and rename my Username back to Doug from Douglas by creating another local Admin User and logging in with that and then doing the rename from Computer Management.

I managed to find an easier way to change both my Username and full Name.
    I used "netplwiz".
    I found the instructions here...

How To Change User Account Name In Windows 8

It says it is for Windows 8 but it works in Windows 10.
After you do this, you must sign out and then back in because it does some strange things.
When I went back into netplwiz after making the changes, the Username I just changed had disappeared!
I also found that until I signed out, clicking on the Start button did nothing and right-clicking on Start and clicking on Control Panel gave me an error. Scared the hell out of me. Signing out and then back in solved these problems. Everything is now back the way it was before I "verified" and accidently changed my Local Account to a Microsoft one.
