Trying to switch from MS account to local account

On my Win10 (20H2) laptop, I went to Settings, Account, Your Info.
My info shows my Gmail email account name and below that it says, "Switch to a local account" (this is what I want to do)
    So far so good.
When I click to switch to local account, my Gmail account login shows up and I have to put in my password. When I do that, it tells me my password is incorrect.
Then I try to log into my Gmail account, and I do that successfully using the password that is supposedly incorrect.
I repeat this process a few times to make sure I have not mis-typed. Same result.
    How can I fix this?

A few screen shots might help - it may be that you are being asked to first verify your MS account pw - see How to Revert Your Windows 10 Account to a Local One (After the Windows Store Hijacks It) for info. Bear in mind this is the password associated with your MS account - although it might use your Gmail address as an ID, it is not the same as a Gmail account. You must have set it up at some time.

Where do you go to to log into that? I expect it is Gmail or Google, perhaps at Sign in - Google Accounts

That is not the same as logging in to your MS account, at https://account.microsoft.com/account (or some similar place). So have a go at signing in to your MS account at the preceding link. Whatever pw works there is the one you need to use to verify your identity before switching account types.

Note that MS seem to keep changing the process, so I may have got it all wrong and be misleading you - sorry if that is the case. Martin

Do you actually use a password for your local account ?

    I don`t, it`s useless.
