Windows startup login name I need to change.

Windows 10 Home. Windows version 20H2. I had a brainstorm of an idea to make an Outlook mail account. After I made it I realized it was a bad idea. I hate the account name. It irks me bad. So I go to delete the account which it did, but it left remains scattered here and about in different areas. It is used as my login name when Windows starts and shows the Welcome screen. I need to remove it from my pc. It has administrative rights. I have done my own searching, but can't find anything worth mentioning. A lot of the fixes are for Windows 10 Pro, not Home. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

I'm assuming that you are talking about a Microsoft account name, not merely a local account name.

My suggestion would be to do the following:

    1) Go to your account management page here:

    https://account.microsoft.com/

    2) Click your account in the upper left cornet. It should be displayed large and prominently.

    3) Under the "Account info" section, on the upper right corner of that section you will see "Edit account info". Click that.

    4) You will see a list of account Account aliases. There will also be a link that says "Learn more about account aliases". Use this to create a name that you like better. Then, to the right of that alias select "Make primary".

You have now effectively renamed your account to something that you like better. If you like, you can delete the old account name (which is now simply an alias of the primary account).

hsehestedt, when I go to your Microsoft link, I get something totally different. I can't sit here and explain it to make any sense though. I am not sure how to proceed. Something tells me that I need to sign in to my administrative microsoft account. I believe I went to my local account. Thanks.

If you need any help, do let me know. Note that you can always post a screenshot if you think that may help.

It's more of a cosmetic issue than anything else. I just messed up with that Outlook.com mail address. I'm not sure how to post a screen shot. I'd rather not show the address anyway. Yes I would appreciate some help if your willing. Like when you go to start/settings/select your Account and under Info it's right there. The picture I managed to change to something presentable. It has the name@Outlook.com. Under the address it has Administrator. That's about all I can tell you except the address shows up in other places. It's also under Email and Accounts. No big deal if you can't help. Maybe others will leave a post here. Thanks.

Just for clarity, what I meant was to click where your account is shown as in the below example (the area I blurred out).

On the page that comes up, you should see something like this:

hsehestedt, thanks for the help anyway, but I have decided to let it go. Unless you can come up with something, I'll just let it go. It's really no big deal. I mean I don't have to look at it all day long. You would think I could have found some help on the Web, but it seems it's more geared to Windows 10 Pro. Without Pro, it is difficult. Thanks
