Weird UAC issue. Changes on reboot.

I have been having a weird issue with the UAC for a bit that I have now decided it is bugging me to much.

When I restart my computer, the UAC setting change. It should be at the default of level 3. After a reboot, it is set to level 4 but acting it is like it is on level 2. It doesn't dim the desktop. I can go in and change the setting, and it will stick until the next the computer reboots.

I haven't installed recently but some games and what ever Windows/Office updates there are. No major hardware changes either. My Google searching hasn't really come up with anything and the DISM commands and SFC didn't resolve the issue.

Ideas? Or is a reinstall looking likely.

I think there was a similar report a few months ago but didn't make any notes about it.

I cannot think of any explanation other than malware. If Windows Defender does not detect any then run a Windows Defender offline scan

I have a batch file that runs at user login to check a small number of key system parameters and UAC level is one of them. If, when you have detected & removed the problem then reinstalled Windows, you are interested I will post that UAC check for you. It will take a bit of work because my own version includes calls to some of my other tools but if you will really use it then I will work it all out for you.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
