Can't access other users at logon screen - Only an old user

    Hi
As the title suggests, I cannot see a way of logging-on to Windows. At present, an old user (no longer contactable) comes up by default, but I don't know his password. There is no option for other users - I've tried CTRL-ALT-DEL, Alt-F4, Win-L and other combinations suggested on the web, but none of these have any effect at all - nothing happens.
    Restarting/shutting down doesn't help.
I have run the troubleshooting from Shift-Restart and added users to the Admin group via the command line, but they still don't show up for logging-on.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Windows10 on an Asus T100HA

    Thanks

Added later - See post #8 first

See Show-Hide Users in Login Screen - WOSHub

You need the second section - Show All Local User Account on Login Screen

I thought there was a TenForumsTutorial on this but I can't find it.

    Welcome to TenForums.
It's really worth making time to browse through the
Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at www.tenforums.com/tutorials

You have not completed your system specs.

    Hello Denis,

We have one to enable or disable an account instead. Option 3 is for hide or unhide an account.

The OP needs a general rule of allowing all user accounts to appear.
    - The tutorial does not seem to have that option [I thought it, or another tutorial, had].
    - So the OP will have to use that external link instead. Not the end of the world but I trust TenForumsTutorials more than other sites.

    All the best,

    Brink,

The OP is after a list of all user accounts rather than any selected accounts. The WOSHub procedure achieves that.

    BUT

I failed to appreciate that the OP cannot log in at all. This, it seems to me, necessitates use of
    both
Enable or Disable Built-in Elevated Administrator Account - TenForumsTutorials [Option 5]
    and
expertise in offline Registry editing to load the HKLM Hive [after an InstallUSB boot] in order to carry out the procedure suggested by WOSHub.
This seems , to me, to be too much to ask of an average user. If a friend had this problem I would go around and fix it myself because trying to talk somebody through the job would melt both our brains.

So my earlier posts effectively assumed that the OP had fixed the problem so could then carry out the procedure to fix the problem.

    Any ideas?

    percyp,

As you'll see from post #6 above, I failed to understand your situation properly and have asked Brink to help.
    - I failed to appreciate that you were unable to log in at all.

    How did this problem start?
    - Was there some system change that created the problem?
    - Or are you trying to re-start using an old computer that's been in the potting shed for a year?
    - Are you certain that other user accounts exist and that at least one of them is an Admin user account? If so you ought to have been able to log in using one of them in the WRE [the Shift-Restart mode].

    percyp,

I assume the problem account is a local account because otherwise you'd already have tried to reset its password using the facilities available online.

1 Go back to the Shift-Restart and its command prompt.

2 Reset the password of the problem account using Change account password - TenForumsTutorials [Option 5 seems best]

3 That will allow you to log into it in order to do the job described in my original post #2.

First of all - thank you for the replies. Secondly, sorry for the delay in replying.

As luck would have it, I have managed to access the old account using educated guesswork, and a lot of luck, for the password. The laptop had been unused for a year, but had some work files on it that needed accessing, which is why I couldn't just reinstall the OS. Now I have access, I can make sure that the other accounts are available.
I have now bookmarked this page - just in case.
    Thanks Again
