Having trouble sussing out microsoft account vs windows login password
So about 10 years late to the party (and very fortunate thus far) ive decided to do away with using one password for EVERYTHING and hop on the password manager train. So far so good, although probably have a few more months of changing things over
I've reached my login.live microsoft stuffs. I logged into my microsoft account via web browser and changed my password to the impossible to remember string created by my password manager. I saved it, and tested it. Logged out of the microsoft account and logged back in. All is well.
I knew it was going to be a nightmare logging into windows itself as theres no access to the password manager app until logged in. However until I come up with a better solution, I wanted to get it a unique pass. I was considering a windows pin but the problems that creates if you have a hard drive failure, or restore an image etc, i decided no way jose. I'll create a unique easier to enter password eventually, but for now ill be stuck pulling it from a different device and typing it in manually as theres no remembering it.
Problem im having is that while the password manager's created and saved password works for my microsoft account via the web, logging into windows still uses my old password.
I figured perhaps I needed to restart, and so i did. Upon restarting I got the prompt "theres a problem with your microsoft account" and so i clicked "fix it" which prompted me for the new password. I assumed all was well as the windows tooltip told me it was so/accepted the password. However upon relogging again (or locking/unlocking the pc) its still taking the old password.
What on earth is going on? Shouldnt my password to log into windows ala my microsoft account be the exact same as the password used to log into the microsoft account via the website? o.O
