UAC yes button missing

Hi! Whenever I try to do something on my laptop I get the UAC pop up Access is Denied. It appears that I am no longer an Admin on my own laptop. I have tried several methods of changing my account from Local to Admin with no success. Each time I am taken back to the Access denied pop up so I'm going round in circles. Looks like you can't be an Admin without already being an Admin!
I tried the regedit method but again same result. Access denied. I cannot even download a program because I need to sign in as Admin and use the password.
The pop up only has a No button so I can't enter anything
I also tried Re-install W10 and keep your files/app data intact | Windows 10 Forums

but this only took me back to the same pop up.
My laptop was recently rebuilt and I suspect with a digital key. Could this be the problem?

That's right, if you don't have Administrator account (your current is not Admin) you can't create additional administrators.

What happened to your Admin account, is it gone or you don't know the password?

When there is no 'Yes' button in the UAC it means there are NO admin accounts on this PC. This can happen if you deliberately or accidentally demote your user account from an administrator to a Standard user. This tutorial by @Try3 should help....

Hi Dennis - Many thanks for this. I would not have been able to work it out for myself.
A couple of points, if you don't mind.
When I hovered over the Start button in Safe Mode I got nothing. Instead I right clicked Start, clicked Run and in the box that appeared I entered cmd. This took me to the command line and I then carried on with your script.
I have a slight issue in that I am also running Linux Mint 20.1 and you have to be quick in scrolling down to select Windows 10 before Mint loads. Do you know how to rearrange the boot order so that Windows loads first?
Also, when I was back up and running as an Admin I had lost a bunch of shortcuts and their associated programs including my shortcut to ebay and I cannot for the life of me remember how I got it in the first place. I also had some shortcuts and programs I didn't want (Avast Browser, Bing etc) which I have removed.
On the Windows log in screen I now have the list of accounts. How can I remove this?
Again, very many thanks for your help with this. It's invaluable.

What I referred to in para 4.1 was hovering over the
Start menu, User icon
not the Start button itself.
Doing so displays the name of the currently logged in user account and was just intended as a confirmation/reassurance step.

I do not know. I have never used a dual-boot with a non-Windows OS.
In remove dual boot with easyBCD - TenForums [post #5], a specific utility is said to be useful.

Since you are now using a new user account,
1 Your previous files will by default be in the C:\Users\OldUserName folders. Ad as Admin you can give yourself permission to access them in order to copy them to your new user account's folders.
2 There will also be some entries in the Start menu for things you had removed from your previous one [Start menus are user-tailorable]. But having an Avast browser should only be there is you had previously installed that application. Avast have taken over Piriform and it is quite possible that you have updated one of their utilities [such as CCleaner] using default options that included installing Avast.

I do not know. I have never done any work on the sign-in screen.
